How do you tell the difference between fear and gut feelings?

.... and how do you get rid of the fear?

There's an event I'm considering I'm going to. I honestly cannot decide which way to go, as the pull is strong both ways. And I can no longer tell which voice is my instinct.

When in doubt, say no... that's been one of my life mottos and it's worked for me. Ends all inner confusion real quick. However, if you have already identified your reluctance as fear, and if you're sensing it's fear that you need to overcome somehow, than I'd say your higher self is asking you to step up and confront that fear.

How do you overcome it? That's an individual question, but in general you can start by changing your perspective with regarding things you fear or have an aversion to. I dislike travelling long distances for example, and the way I overcome that is by focusing on the adventure aspect. It's not a long trip, it's a extended adventure.

My gut feeling is normally not fear-based. In terms of warning type of message, it is like a "such-and-such is going to happen" message. No negative emotion along with that message. Sort of a business-like factual information.

Fear of course is a strong negative emotion.

But to comment on your situation, I believe that even if you miss an event that you are meant to attend, then another such event or opportunity will arise later. It will repeatedly show up in your life until you actually attend it. That's if something is meant to be. So no need to worry about missing anything. ^_^

I started something in another section somewhat about this though this may be more to the point.

Fear is a beautiful thing if we remember the saying that the brave don't lack fear but feel it and do something anyways... at least if we also remember to be nice to ourselves and not push too hard in that regard.

I see it as realising our weaknesses and instead of casting them aside in favour of our strengths, which isn't so good as our weaknesses get weaker and more liable to break... as it were, but work on our weaknesses which tends to make our strengths more robust overall.

Thank you for the posts, guys, I appreciate it!

My problem is I've ben thinking about this so much and for so long that I can't tell if the resistance to doing it is my gut telling me not to or just fear keeping from doing it.
