Blood Sports ...

In light of the Conservatives unexpected election victory, with clear majority, there can have been few people happier than the blood sports fraternity, as Mr C made a free vote on repealing the Hunting Act an election pledge and part of his election manifesto.

The functions of a free vote mean there will be some yap, for and against, then a vote.

Alas, it's looking like a done deal already as the SNP have announced that they will abstain ... even though a hunting ban will remain in force in Scotland.

Death is a part of life. Hunting & fishing are arguably 2 of the oldest professions known to man. Having said that I'm against killing for the sake of killing (trophy / sport hunting ) but if a man is hunting for the pot, I see no wrong in that.
There's numerous fishing shows on tv in my country, most of these fishermen practice catch and release. My wife is from a small fishing village in the Philippines. One day while watching TV she saw one of those shows and was horrified. To her it was the cruelest most barbaric activity a person could participate in. The same woman however will happily catch, kill and clean her own fish for the table.
Hunting and fishing like most things in the world are rarely black and white, usually there are different shades of grey.

What we are talking about is fox hunting. This is the pursuit of an animal for fun, not food. When caught the animal is ripped to pieces by a pack of hounds.
Ah, the English upper classes!
God save us from the Tories.

Spiritual evolution is all about growing in wisdom, love and understanding.
and as you do grow in wisdom, love and understanding you recognise the unity of all life, and together with not wanting to hurt and kill - or get someone else to do it on your behalf, you move away from 'the old ways'.

Some people used to eat human flesh at one time. They don't do it now.
Many people see nothing wrong in eating animal flesh, but the time will come when the thought of eating the latter will be as repulsive as the thought of eating the former.

I'm not one of the landed gentry, though I have no objection to them or anyone else of any social background dressing up, meeting up and galloping about the countryside, so it is nothing to do with class or politics.
The thing I object to is chasing and ripping to pieces a beautiful but terrified, defenceless animal in the name of 'sport'.

Drag hunting fulfils every aspect of hunting - bar the savage kill. This apparently is the bit our glorious leader and his friends (or should be fiends?) in the Countryside Alliance crave! Hence the infamous vote to overturn the Hunting Act.

Contrary to what I said earlier, there is some chance the SNP will step in and give Mr C and the CA the 'Highland charge'....
