Pigeon Rescue
This is a wonderful British bird rescue group. Lots of useful information.

This is a great website. I didn't know there was a rescue specifically for pigeons and doves.
When I was little , my mother found a pigeon looking half dead on the lawn. She took it in, put it in a quiet warm place in a box with a blanket, and let it alone. It got stronger so she fed it water with a dropper. The pigeon recovered quickly. And she let it go. It flew away ok. She said it was exhausted and dehydrated.

That's a coincidence! When I was young my mother rescued a pigeon in a bad state. She allowed him to rest, fed and watered him and then put him outside. He walked around a while - and then came in the house again! He stayed as a pet till his passing over and was called Fred. He went outside to exercise each day, but never flew far and always came back.
Sorry, Noble Knight...the original post was about the pigeon site. I hadn't seen it before but it is very informative. Thanks for posting.

It is not uncommon to see a pigeon brought down by a raptor of some description....
If you see plucked feathers you're too late.
But if not, pigeons lie stock still (play dead) when they're brought down and eventually pinned down by a raptor. If no feathers, the pigeon is very probably still alive and you can mount a rescue if you're speedy enough.

Some of you may know that Trafalgar Square in London, UK was once famous for its flocks of pigeons congregating there. You could buy birdseed to feed them. However their droppings disfigured the statues there and, when the numbers got to around 35,000 they were deemed to be a health hazard and feeding them was banned. Subsequently the numbers of pigeons congregating at this square have declined.

I love wild pigeons but urban ones are some sort of flying rat - sorry to say. Wild, just stunning.
PIgeons are discouraged from Wimbledon by a hawk-walker - a wonderful method of controlling pigeons in cities - someone walks a hawk around once a day, or a few times a week and that prevents pigeons coming in to the area.
I'm not anti pigeon, but they can cause a lot of damage with very acidic droppings.
