Question Something big is happening, not sure where to go from here...

Ok, some background information.

I have been Atheist most of my life, never believing at all. Then I was Agnostic for about 2 years.. and then I started to feel that that wasn't right either.

In the past say, 2 weeks, I feel like something is becoming known to me. About a week ago I was thinking about this strange new sensation and it occured to me, that I believe in God. I find this odd because I didn't go looking for it.. it just came to me. I feel like something is making itself known to me, at first I couldn't figure out what but now I am certain that it is God...

I've never had anything like this before, never have been religious. I feel the urge to pray sometimes when I didn't before, out of nowhere.. and when I do pray, it doesn't feel empty. I have tried to pray in the past out of desperation in certain situations but without belief - but now I believe. It feels very different.

I feel some sort of protection and a sense of love in me I didn't have before, and I feel more greatful and at peace with what I have.

Also: There are a lot of things in the Bible I disagree with, I haven't read it but have read lots about different passages online etc. I am a bisexual female, see nothing wrong with this at all, I don't think it should be discriminated against. I really do believe in being tolerant and accepting. I'm not sure I'm ready to start going to a church, I don't even know if I can call myself a Christian..

I'm just so confused! I've only told one person so far and she is an online friend. Also, maybe I should add: I am currently in a huge turning point in my life. Some of you may know from a previous thread I made that a good friend of mine recently committed suicide, and I have decided to stop contact with an abusive family member that had mistreated me for many years. All this has happened in this month, October 2011, and now I have these unusual feelings. Do you think it is related to this, at all?

I am greatful for anyones input/advice/help on this..

What on Earth?! I have no idea why this thread showed up twice, both posted at the same minute. Please use this one to reply, I'm not sure what happened!

God is only a name that we have given to a creative power that has caused this universe to be. To say that you believe in God does not necessitate that you become a Christian person. As a bisexual female, you will not be welcomed in most Christian churches so might I suggest that you be open to where the Creative Force leads you, but please don't 'settle' because you can't see any other route. Unless you are playing at being a bisexual and are willing to give that part of your life up, you will likely find the Christian experience to be a difficult one.

Opening Up To New Ideas

It is useful that you’re giving your self the flexibility to examine different beliefs. This is very useful.

What you describe sounds like you’re awakening. Awakening doesn’t mean opening up to organized religion necessarily. Spirituality extends waaaaay beyond the beliefs of any organized religion, western or eastern. Spirituality is about getting in touch w/ our own energies & connecting w/ the other Universal energies, honoring this connection w/ all (Oneness). There are many other views about the energies we call God than organized religion’s view of God as a separate deity.

Many have found spirituality outside of organized religion to be very satisfying.

If you’re interested in organized religion as a bisexual woman, the Unitarians might be worth looking into.

It showed up twice because it's so important.

I suspect that most people advising you about the supposed antipathy of Christian churches to gay and bisexual people haven't been to church for. . . oh, 30 years or so.
