Earth and Sky Meditation
Because I have little discipline in my external hard-drive, I often find things that I didn't know I had. Anyway, this is one such. Don't remember where it came from but it seems too good to just languish away.
Earth and Sky Meditation
Sit quietly, close your eyes, and let your thoughts go. Breathe deeply, and concentrate only on your breath. Be still, and let your mind be still. Embrace the silence. Now, in the silence, feel roots growing from your feet. Feel them push and dig through the earth, reaching downward through the soil and the stone, spreading deeper and wider until they reach the waters under the earth; that dark, cool, silent power that is the Mother of life.
Draw this power upward, up through your roots and into your feet, rising with your breath, up through your legs, into your loins, gathering there in a cauldron of earth power. Let it rise upward through your breath, up through your spine, up to your heart where it swirls and gathers into a restoring cauldron of earth power. Breathe, and draw the power up into your head, behind your eyes, filling a cauldron of wisdom that fills you with silvery light. Let this power fill your body, flow out from the top of your head, flow from your fingertips, spill out of your every cell to soak back into the earth. You are filled with the power of the earth, the power of the source of life.
Now cast your gaze skyward, to the moon and sun and the far-off stars. Focus on the single bright star directly over your head. Draw its shining power down, pulling gold from the sun and blue-white from the moon. Draw the power down into your head, where it mingles with the silvery earth power and ignites the cauldron of wisdom behind your eyes. Let the power flow down into your heart and ignite the cauldron of love and healing there. Let it flow down into your loins and ignite the cauldron of creation and regeneration there.
Feel the powers of earth and sky, mingling and swirling inside you. Feel the three cauldrons, full and blazing with golden and silver light, pulsing inside you. You are full of the humming, vibrating power of earth and sky. You are the Tree, roots in the earth, branches in the sky, the nexus of all worlds.
The powers are balanced in you, source of all magic and creation. You may relax, breathe, and let them flow back into the multiverse before you open your eyes, calm and refreshed. Or you may travel further and use these powers to voyage onward, to shape your world.
Breaking out.
You open your eyes. There is only a dim light. You are surrounded by four rough stone walls, and a stone ceiling that drips cold water over your head. You are completely enclosed. The silence is deafening. There seems to be no way out...
...as you hover on the edge of panic, though, you close your eyes and find the Center again...you search for the directions...yes, there's North...South...West...
You open your eyes again and glance around. To the north, a gate yawns open in the wall. Outside, you see a tall mountain peak off in the distance past a green meadow. A chill wind blows...
To the west, another gate has opened, through which you see a windswept ocean in the setting Sun, as if from the prow of a ship. The waves churn...
To the south, you see through the gate a fiery desert, the Sun baking down from high above. A hawk calls...
You look to the east and stop. Instead of a gate, this wall remains intact and dark...but it is covered, side to side and top to bottom, with hissing serpents and deadly scorpions. They writhe and scuttle along the wall, in constant motion, like a thick, living carpet...
You look around again at the three gates...then at the east wall, dark and terrible and formidable...
You find the Center again...you face the east wall and walk forward, eyes closed...you walk THROUGH the wall, the serpents, the scorpions. You feel a buzzing in your body and a humming in your ears...the creatures melt away, and you feel like you're pushing your way through a thick, sticky barrier...
...and you open your eyes...you're standing on a bluff overlooking the sea...the Sun is just rising ahead of you...a fresh, brisk wind blows your hair back...
...and the Sun breaks free from the horizon, throwing its light across the water to you...
...and you throw up your arms and cry out at the Break of Day...the light is dazzling...you feel caught up in a vortex of powerful energy, Earth below, Sky above, Sea around...
...then the feeling dissipates slowly, and you close your eyes, feeling it fade...all is silent and dark...you take several slow, deep breaths, and open your eyes...
You're home.
