Which Qur'an Translation Do You Prefer?
Lately, I've been on this whirlwind "regime" on learning about different world religions and it's been a set goal to read as many books as possible on different religions.
I recently just finished reading the book Growing Up Muslim: Understanding the Beliefs and Practices of Islam by Sumbul Ali-Karamali and have been inspired to learn more, and I would like to actually read the Qur'an. I've never read the Qur'an before, so I have no idea which translation would be best.
Which would you recommend?
- Yusuf Ali?
- J. M. Rodwell (1861)?
- Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall (1930)?
- Palmer (1880)?
- Bell (1937-1939)?
- Arberry (1955)?
- or, Dawood (1956)?
Or, also, if you recommend any other books that you think is great to learn more about Islam, please feel free to list them too!
Thanks in advance!
