What Is? - Written Tonight

Here's a poem I just wrote. Please read and tell me if you like it. Thanks.

"What Is?"

What is truth, for you to say it's untrue?
What is honesty, just between me and you?
What is real, when all reality is false?
What's a dance, is it foxtrot or a waltz?

What is justice, to those who call unfair?
What is beauty, to one who can't compare?
What is love, to a heart that cannot feel?
What's a dream, when nothing else seems real?

What is sadness, when joy is overrated?
What's expression, but these joys understated?
What is freedom, when enslaved by the mind?
What's the past, but our memories left behind?

What is knowledge, is it means unto an end?
What is loneliness, and longing for a friend?
What is attachment, when nothing is our own?
What's a garden, but true nature overgrown?

What is silence, but to stop inner thought?
What is purchase, when nothing gets bought?
What is trust, to a soul who can't forgive?
What is death, but a reason we should live?

What is darkness, to a spirit made of light?
What is victory, when there isn't any fight?
What is infinity, but the end to a beginning?
What is a game, when there's no-one winning?

What is the mind, but all thought fleeting?
What is surrender, but defenses retreating?
What is kindness, to hearts full of greed?
What is prayer, but answer to our need?

What is God, but the reason we all exist?
What is patience, but a desire to persist?
What is wisdom, in the absence of learning?
What is fire, without matter for the burning?

What is the ego, but the lack of a Divine?
What is water then when everything is wine?
What is thought, when there's no-one thinking?
What is the drink, when nobody is drinking?

What is the future, in an untapped potential?
What is the order, in a chaotic sequential?
What is all logic, but thought recognition?
What is permanence, in the wake of transition?

What is true Being, but a rest within Soul?
What is the piece, but a fraction of Whole?
What is nature, but love's expression unfolding?
What is God? but love's expression enfolding?

- The Necromancer

Its a great sentiment Necromancer, a perspective reminder, kinda reminds me about the parable of the ship, which because those looking out to sea had never seen one, was as good as invisible to them.

I especially like this verse ;

What is justice, to those who call unfair?
What is beauty, to one who can't compare?
What is love, to a heart that cannot feel?
What's a dream, when nothing else seems real?

Actually made my head think about 'what is?'

Great piece thanks for sharing :)

Thank you for replying.

I was waiting til a few more people did before I revisited this, but it looks like nobody else is going to.

At least you got something out of it, so I am happy about that. The appreciation of one is better than zero.

I have the feeling I'm gonna be one of those people who are only appreciated after they're dead...all the best people are...it's a curse...

But then your still alive anyway. Time is irrelevant to the nature of spirit.

Thanks guys for your appraisal and appreciation. *hugs*

Yeah, the 'flow drift' was the state in which I wrote it so I'm glad that got translated. :)

If time is irrelevant to spirit nature, how do I get things to happen faster then? *jks

Necromancer, well done. It's long and thought provoking. Gently provoking thought, not argumentative. And for it to read so easily with the repetitive "What is" beginner is remarkable. I always fret when I do that, fearing people won't finish. I finished.

Thanks for that.

It sort of just wrote itself that way...I don't even know what I was aiming for. I just had the first two lines of it, then it was like; 'oh why not just go with the whole idea of this?'...hence, poem.

I should really start writing more of these as a way to get all my 'ya yas' out.

One thing I keep forgetting...going back to a previous reply "time has no significance in the spirit world'...so maybe if I stop waiting for things to happen, they will...

Now, to go and make a thread in the 'law of attraction' place, basically saying that 'good things come to those who just wait'.

Cheers.

While I was hanging my washing out yesterday, a poem came back to me that I wrote at 17 yrs old...it goes to show me that nothing ever changes:

The Shaman's Drum

The shaman's drum beats, mind entrancing,
Through shards of light, Lord Shiva dancing,
On eagles wings, a spirit free...
Such is the Law, so mote it be.

The shaman's drum beats, mind in union,
A portal through divine communion,
To every door, behold, a key...
Such is the Law, so mote it be. - Dianne

Yeah, nothing changes...lol

Here's another one I just remembered - I wrote thousands of poems...

The Crow

The crow, she sighs with mournful breath,
To pity souls, ungrieved in death,
Amid the mossy tombstones found,
Laying shattered 'pon life's hallowed ground.

The crow, she flies on nightshade wings,
An ode to whom, the minor sings,
Silhouetted against horizon's dawn,
To greet the day, as yet unborn.

In the emerald-painted gum on high,
Can behear that stark, yet plainive cry,
As she recalls man's tales of angst and woe,
Deep footfalls in the virgin snow.

Yet as the spirit needs depart,
The raven stirs their wandering heart,
But the crow recites her saddest poem,
As she guides those loving souls on home. - Dianne
