A friend of mine regularly uses henna, a shade called 'Caca Rouge' I believe from Lush. The colour really pops, it's extremely vibrant.
What I would say is to keep the colour on your hair for a good few hours. I tried a small amount for an hour and it did very little.
It also makes a pretty big mess! So pop a shower cap over your head while it works its magic. Since it's natural, you don't have to worry about it leaving it on for a while.
The only thing to bear in mind when you do use henna is that you can't, or at least shouldn't, go back to using chemical dyes until your hair has completely grown out.
Other than that, you're less likely to damage your hair going the more natural way :-)

henna is absolutely amazing-it's really good for your hair and you can find henna that has specific colors you'd want or you can do regular henna which will give you the most radiant beautiful red hair you could imagine. And it looks natural! read up on how to apply it. You should cut some sample hair and try the henna on that first to see what it will do to your color and to experiment and see how long you should leave the henna in when you do your actual hair :) good luck!
