Wildlife dead on highways
On the way home I saw a momma deer and her tiny baby dead. I really wanted to stopped and say a prayer or something. The baby was pretty tiny it has spots on its rear end. They were near a grain elevator. So they probably had breakfast and then went to find shade and whack. I hope it was a quick passing. Of maybe just the momma got his and the baby was going to here and then it got hit. Hard to say.
I am also thinking was there another baby. This other time this momma was lying beside the highway and this older baby was standing there with it.It kind of looked like she was nudging her. and I thought awe how sad. It just stood there waiting for something or another deer to come out.
Anyone else get really sad when wildlife is dead on the highway? I am the type of person who avoids gofers.

Oh that is sad. There's a mama-deer in my back field, with her 2 fawns, and though this is a quiet country place, there is a lane nearby which cars sometimes race along! I see the little family in my field and tell them never to go near that road! They seem to keep away from it -so far.
I often see Badgers here who have been killed by cars. Even on the quiet lanes. Some humans think because the national speed-limit is 60mph technically, that means they can speed! But they don't think about the wildlife. I go quite slowly on these little lanes, and slow down for everything....including pigeons! Any human speed-freaks behind me can just wait!

I also see wild life dead on roads, usually deer, raccoons and rabbitts. It is sad and could be prevented if as you say drivers would slow down.

I hope this doesn't sound horrible but I hate seeing injured animals more
But, still hate the sight of dead animals. I wonder about their families.

I do too. I should have stopped to check for other babies. More then likely the babies hang around by their mom till they too get hit. I hate seeing sick animals too. I do all I can. I am just not sure what one does with all that emotion.

indeed, unchannelled emotion as such is no good for you and the animal would not want that - I believe.
Pray for their souls, pray for the families, and also perhaps the driver who hit them who may be traumatised somewhat - I know I would be.
That's all I can suggest.

Would you believe that some hunters call it road kill and if it's fresh will take it to eat?

primrose - I'm in favour of that I have to say. I'm a meat-eater myself although I don't eat much and it's better that it is used for some reason rather than wasted as such. It just seems practical.
But, I would be happy to be advised otherwise if I'm missing a piece of information.

Yeah, I think I have heard some people hitting a deer and then taking it home to eat. I could never kill an animal and then eat it.(well maybe if I had to survive)I won't eat baby animals either. I am fully aware of the food chain.
I had an uncle who used to raise rabbits to butcher and sell. He stopped after he realized his daughter was playing with them. I would also go visit them too. Never knowing till years later they were food. I remember we had bbq rabbit. It was good. And I still did not realize that most people don't have a lot of rabbits in cages if they are pets.
Later I wonder which rabbit were ate. I remembered asking if I could have one to take home.
if I had to watch my food die I wouldn't eat it, unless I had to survive as mentioned above.
