why 420

It is strange how for no logical reason whatsoever certain conventions and nomenclatures like getting high at 420 seem to take on a life of their own. Without advertisement or media attention this phenomenon has penetrated and persisted until becoming pervasive throughout the world in a very short time. What is so powerful about getting high on 420 that everybody is doing it?
To understand this conundrum one must first realize the coincidence of numbers that pervades our lives is not coincidence but the reflection of a natural geometry portrayed in the ten fingers and ten toes, the seven land masses and three oceans and the sun the nine planets—ten is the fulcrum to our system of thinking and we should not be surprised to find other numbers of significance that secretly govern our lives. The Cabala, a Jewish mystical system based in the interplay between letters and numbers, is particularly suited to unravel this dilemma: what does the number 420 mean?
The system by which numbers and letters become interchangeable is called gematria and it is interesting to note the word Ashun/Smoke in Hebrew is directed related to the number 420 through its gematria. The number 42 refers to the planet Mars from where the Torah was given, as it says: And the mountain blossomed then smoked. It must have been some smoke, causing the Jewish People to travel in a cloud for forty years in the wilderness where pure water flowed from a rock that rolled along with the Twelve Tribes while bread rained down every morning from the sky.
The Zohar-Book of Secret identifies Mars as being the place of the previous world with an interior of ice opposed to earth with her interior of fire; these two worlds of fire and ice provide the relativity needed to establish up and down—the earth is down and Mars is up. Smoke goes up particularly at 420 when the power of Mars is strong.
The number forty-two also has deep cabalistic meaning relating to the previous world known as Tohu/Confusion, a world where sexuality was dormant producing the combination of six times seven equaling 42 called by the name: Mob. Like 420 this term Mob has enjoyed a lasting ability to retain authority as a synonym for the Mafia—the Mob, while other acronyms and nomenclatures are forgotten. According to the Torah ancient Rome was fathered by Esau twin brother of Yaakov progenitor of the Twelve Tribes of Yisroel. The relationship between Rome and Jerusalem is similar to the relationship between earth and Mars. There are actually Jewish prayers having forty-two words that are said quietly as not to give Mars too much energy.
The most negative aspect of 420 is the birthday of the infamous dictator Adolph Hitler occurring on April 20. This also can be understood by employing a cabalistic perspective. In all things there is its opposite which is achieved through excess. Too much connection with Mars can fill an empty container with arrogance and violence. The animals come from Mars and therefore the Talmud-Book of Law says the ignorant should refrain from eating meat lest you take on the characteristic of the animal you devour.
It is the disparity between these two ancient rivals, Esau/Rome and Yaakov/Jerusalem which has caused much turmoil in the world. When we smoke and get high on 420 we bridge this primordial gap bringing temporal relief. The reason why Marijuana is the substance embodying this unique ability to span worlds is because Avraham brought the seed from Mars on his way to the earth from the Tower of Babel. As it says, in the Torah, Avraham sent his later sons, the children of Katara, to the east with presents—it is at that time, 4000 years ago, when Marijuana suddenly appears in India as Sativa and later in South East Asia as Indica. All strains of Marijuna come from these two sources which came from Avraham who brought to the world from the planet Mars many gifts.
The reason why certain traditions remain, and getting high on 420 has become a tradition, is because they embody something that is true; the truer the substance, the longer it will last. Most traditions can be traced back to some logical premise on which the tradition is based, but those traditions which lack logic, yet have universal appeal relate to the truth and that which is true is easily reveal and is hard to overcome.
Getting high is a laudable event; to somehow counteract the effects of gravity, gives a whole new perspective to reality. Perhaps that is the ultimate purpose of marijuana—to get us high enough to see things in a different way.

Greetings..

Numbers are meaningless until they are related to something.. the number 10 is meaningless, unless we are referring to 10 of something, say apples.. Numbers can be, and are, manipulated to represent whatever one chooses.. numbers are like words, abstractions.. symbols of something.. numbers are not naturally occurring, they are human contrivances of convenience..

I think that numbers have significance...though I don't know anything about cabala...the geometry of Nature is proof enough to me that numbers have meaning.

As for 420 and marijuana...I wouldn't necessarily say that getting high is a laudable event, although I think it has opened a lot of people's eyes to the fact that there are other perspectives to life. I think one thing is for sure though: we'd have a lot less war if we legalized weed.
