Nanotech

Hi guys!

I've been reading a lot about nanotech recently, and I know its 20, 30, 40 years away from becoming as common as oxygen, but one can dream

I was thinking. What would the ramifications be for utilizing nanotech for purposes of immortality?

I forgot which article, but I think it was either the UK's Telegraph, or the Guardian, but I read that nanotech would allow you to do things like run a sprint for 15 minutes without a single breath, or go scuba diving for four hours before needing to come back to the surface. Seems crazy.

Found the link! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/c...-for-ever.html

What would the consequences of utilizing nanotech for full-blow immortality(eg. bus runs over your toes, they grow back; or never getting wrink;es[sure everyone would love that ])? I guess this is primarily a question about nano-immortality and reincarnation, or an afterlife.

Would it just be considered a step up in human evolution(spiritually, biologically, and technologically)? I guess since it wouldn't make much difference, since it's not really the physical body that matters. It would just mean that your "clothes" are now indestructable.

Lol. Nanotechnology shows potential in many areas but for the most part what we read are ideas to hype funding research. I think as far as health goes, you could make a nanovirus to attack things like cancer cells maybe but as far as immortality may be concerned, you aren't going to live forever.

Reminds me of an episode of "The Outer Limits" I saw.

I don't think there is enough emphasis on how potentially dangerous nanotechnology is. I have no problems with advancing technology being used for good but nanotechnology has not been around very long and we don't completely know what the ramifications of it are. I think it should only be used in a laboratory setting and nothing further. And we should ban all patents on life.
