I think the site provides inaccurate information.

Ok, a website that doesn't give its sources, and panic on another website on which someone has read the first website.

However, the UK has a history of being liberal in terms of spiritual beliefs. Unlike the US, we don't have the fundamental Christianity in anything other than small pockets, and as a nation people are very tolerant of numerous belief systems. If anything, those who don't believe in much tend to think it's all just a bit silly, rather than anything sinister.

So I would be more than willing to bet that good old SF won't be at all effected....nor the many sites like it.

And if they did ban all websites that had esoteric material, they would be ridiculed.

Can I just point out that this website also has a story about the hidden Alien wars and Britney Spears still being under mind control. It just likes like a dramatic bit of scaremongering that gets people reading the ads that pay the writers of such stories.

and if they did, it would do the exact opposite of said intended ban

Yes. One little factor the website managed to miss when using the example of the Chinese web filter as a comparison...is that the Chinese government is not elected. Whereas, the UK government is...every 4 years.

Governments have been ridiculed for a lot less. I think they would be expecting some discontent. I couldn't see it bothering them much.

Elections don't mean anything, unfortunately.

Having seen turn arounds on numerous policies over the years, I disagree that the UK government don't change if they feel it is in their interest to do so.

I will sign the petition when someone can give me some clear evidence that this policy means what the scaremongerers are hypothesising.

However, I support the policy to restrict access to websites that have the potential to cause harm, such as websites promoting eating disorders, self harm and harm to others. Its easy to get carried away on this esoteric thing and forget that the internet can be a horrible place.

What, may I ask, has "esoteric material" got to do with any form of protective web-censorship?

Beware.....

Here we go again. If this info is any kind of true to Life it's another shining example of how our glorious leaders are so far out of touch that it beggars belief. Mind you, considering how many millions of the taxpayers' money goes to subsidising the advancement of their fat rumps while thousands go hungry, apathy isn't the word I'd use for the majority of the great democratic British public. And yes, I'm British - or at least I live in the UK. But apathy isn't confined to the UK by any means, there are scary things going on in a few 'civilised' countries that would shock most people.

I've been hearing rumours that the 'dark ones' are clutching at straws to keep their grip, and Cameron and Clegg both have strong Illuminati ties. This censoring would work in nicely with that for the conspiracy theorists.

If he thinks he's going to censor porn he'd better think again. This one is an old chestnut that keeps rearing it's ugly head, kept alive by a vocal few that really don't have the first clue about the logistics of censoring internet porn. The Internet Watch Foundation - supposedly an international think tank - was supposed to have been the guardian of internet morals that was supposed to have kept it in check. That worked fine, we've all heard of the IWF and what a grand job they made of it. The last genius idea I heard was from some chief of security who was very vocal about changing the default search options for Google. If this the best some chief of security can come up with then we're in deep trouble. As for censoring 'esoteric' material, even better luck with that one, Cameron. Is it coming up to election time or is there the need for a smoke screen?

yeah - I think you tube is a big culprit in this one, the trouble with you tube is though they give the methods but no support after, which is what forums like this one provide.

This is exactly why the US has the second amendment. In case the government becomes what the people don't want. They can over throw it. Many people seem to have forgotten this. Good governments don't always last forever. And the founding fathers knew this. They were immigrants for a reason. I'm not making a judgment of any of the governments today. I'm just bringing up a point.

From what I understand had the Jews and others in Germany been armed the Nazi party could of possibly been prevented. Had the people of India been armed they may of not had to walk into bullets as Ghandis followers did. Many things could be prevented. I know this is off topic but yet it still is in a sense.
