I had visitors yesterday, and am going out tomorrow. But yes I spent Christmas Day alone. Actually, I wanted to. Well...not exactly, as twice today for about an hour each time I visited a neighbour's cat I am responsible for. She is alone too.
I didn't mind one bit being alone. It was very peaceful and nice, and quiet, which I like. Watched something about living on the Space Station tonight, and ate some nice vegan food followed by sultana flapjacks. Then had a slug of Brandy!

Yep... I believe this is 3 Christmases in a row for me... I have siblings who live about 4 hours away from me - but I cannot bring my dog with me to visit them and I don't care for boarding/kenneling him... So I just opt to spend Christmas alone. I don't mind it as I've let go of so much of the emotional attachment to holidays (birthdays too)... That being said, I do love Christmas lights and I enjoy Christmas music...
If I didn't have the conflict/issue with my dog I would travel to go see my family... But I'm okay with being 'home alone' (love that movie haha)... Technically I'm not alone because I've got my german shepherd to keep me company...

How much is a 'slug'? I've heard of a 'swig', but unfamiliar with the term 'slug'....

No, no, I've heard it.
I would start with an inch or 3.

A shot of brandy sounds like the perfect way to top off a peaceful Christmas! :)
Keeping that in mind for next year.

I've enjoyed both, spending the holidays completely alone and with family.

Well technically I wasn't alone either as I had my maltese terrier for company and she had her usual two walks.
I'd be the same if I couldn't take my dog anywhere...it's home or nothing!

Thanks everyone, hope you all enjoyed your days. I was okay in the end - listened to some beautiful chilled christmas music. made a nut roast, watched morecambe and wise for laughs and The Secret Garden (recorded from the other day) for a few tears!
I'm okay alone, it's more the thought I don't have anywhere to go. If it's pure choice then that's absolutely fine, but given the opportunity of a loving family environment I'd jump at the chance. But hey ho, life isn't perfect.
