In my personal evolution in this life, there was a time when I was doing yoga meditation with regularity and very occasionally smoking cannabis with my friends (just a very little) but usually on my own. Meditation put me into a consciousness of 'spaciousness' or 'vastness'. Cannabis engendered fluid thoughts, often entertaining thoughts and mental images. But if I smoked some before bed, when I lay down for sleep I noticed that one of the things it confered was a kind of biological consciousness. You could call it the 'consciousness of the body'. Awareness, maybe, of the intelligence of the body or of the workings of the physical.
I stopped using cannabis long ago now. It would feel like a backward step for me to use it again.
I'm not posting this to recommend its use. Just reporting. I thought possibly this would be 'on-topic'.

I've not been on this site for a long time but it's interesting that this is the thread that came back--because--I have realized just recently that each time we go out into nature, or appreciate a bird song, or love a canyon or even the beauty of a building, that as we feel emotion from that encounter, THEY (the boulder, the bird, even the building) are feeling as well. The tree that we love -- loves us back as much.
Emotion is the energy from consciousness. And as we feel emotion from interaction with matter, we shouldn't assume that we are the only ones feeling something.
Each time you feel something in nature--or in cities--assume that the matter feels the same emotions.
That makes it a cooperative venture between us, and something that most don't acknowledge.

All life is conscious, in fact all the universe is.
It's only in the limitation of our conditioned minds that we are unaware of it.
In spiritual awakening we become aware in many forms of consciousness we never noticed before... including the physical body.

Body consciousness ... its a given for me ... can't 'imagine' it any other way ... look how easily our physical body is affected by our beliefs ... and the rest ...

A Dual-Aspect Approach to the Mind-Body Problem
http://www.rogerbissell.com/id11aaa.html
The body is conscious in the sense that the body has the power of awareness. This power is mental, from one perspective, and bodily, from another perspective. Both perspectives are perspectives on the same, singular human entity, not on two separate entities, just as two mountain-climbers may see the same mountain, but from opposite sides.
