View Full Version : Seeing through closed eyes (possibly 3rd eye development)

Firstly, I would like to say that this is my first main post on this forum, and I am not sure if I posting in the right section or not, as my experience includes lucid dreaming and astral projection as well and I'm not sure how to tie it all together.

I will try and keep it brief but there are quite a few things I would like to explain

Recently I have been trying to have lucid dreams and have been trying a few different methods, a couple of nights ago i was having trouble getting to sleep after trying to meditate and then just laying still for a while. I went and sat in an armchair in the corner of my bedroom and was listening to music on my ipod. I managed to induce a lucid dream for the first time. I kept completely still and had my eyes shut while relaxing. It felt a bit like I was drifting into sleep an image of my bedroom started forming. After a while and when everything around me was perfectly clear I put my hand over my eyes and felt that they were actually shut and going into REM. After i realised that everything became lucid, but I was still siting in my room. I could hear myself breathing deeply and it felt like i had become seperated from my body. I was too scared to move about or do anything (maybe it was sleep paralysis), as I started getting anxious and couldnt wake myself up. I moved but was aware my body was still in the same position, and i was burning up and tried to move the cover off of myself a bit but it just felt like my hand had passed through it. After a few seconds I woke up and things went back to normal. When I described this to someone else, they said that it was an out of body experience or astral projection and not a lucid dream.
Anyway, since that night I have noticed that I am able to see the things around me again when ever I close my eyes and focus. The night after when I was trying to get to sleep I kept on seeing the outline of things in my room appearing and then it all started to become clear after staring at it for a few seconds. There were a couple of moments when I could feel the same sensations as before which lead me to become lucid, but I was to scared to let it go that far. I moved my hand about in front of my face and could see it and count the fingers, I did a few other tests to know that what I was seeing was what was actually around me and not from memory. My room was dark both those times and I could see everything in black and white. I have been trying to elimintate other causes like light enetering my eyes through closed eyelids or only having my eyes half closed. Sometimes it is a bit hard to tell or I forget that I don't actually have my eyes open.
I have done this during the day as well and can see everything in the living room, I was able to watch things on the TV with my eyes closed, and I tried to read some text from a book as well and was able to read some of the larger writing. For some reason I seem to be able to see better when it is dark, it works well when my eyes are relaxed and not shut tightly, sometimes when I am trying really hard to focus on something far away my eyes start twitching or I have to open my eyes.
I have found that if i cover my eyes I can not see anything clearly, but I am also aware of something blocking my veiw and can see anything where there are gaps. When I keep my eyes closed and half cover them while leaving the middle section where by brow joins my nose uncoverd I can see. So this has made me think about the 3rd eye or brow chakra, as I have read a little about people being able to follow the movement of their hands while their eyes are closed using the 3rd eye, but I havent been able to find too many other similar stories. I don't know if it could have anything to do with astral projection as well, and that I am some how pushing myself just out of my body to be able to see, and sometimes I feel a bit weightless. I know that with other people they are able to move to other places, or see from a different place, or they can see bright colours and spirits. I have tried to look at myself in the mirror with my eyes closed to check that they are, I am able to see my face and some of the details but the area around my nose and eyes is just a grey blur which is strange.

This is the only major paranormal/spiritual thing that has happened to me, so I am a bit confused and would really like to know what it is exactly and how I can control it better, maybe at some point with practise I will be able to see other things and be able to control what direction I can look in. It seems that now it has happened I cant "turn it off" again. I have been finding it hard to sleep because whenever I close my eyes I still see the things in front of me and any brighter areas of light, I can make it go away a bit with a lot of effort, and when I try to see things again it feels like a black cover (like an eyelid) is lifted. I'm not sure if it is possible to see through closed eyelids in some conditions when there is enough light, as far as I can remember I have never been able to see anything with my eyes closed when I have been laying in my bedroom before this

I'm sorry this is so long, I hope there is some advice that can help me. I feel a bit like I sound crazy when I describe this. I am open to all answers and any skepticism if I am somehow tricking myself into believing what i see. I just want to be able to understand

I am sure there are a bunch of names for this that I don't know. It's alot of fun to explore. Years ago I woke up wearing a sleep mask and could see with incredibly clear vision until i realized I was wearing the mask. There are no limits to it. If the lights are off, you may be able to switch it on as well to see into other dimensions. I would avoid allowing labels to be overlayed onto this ability. I would suggest looking into the whole "3'rd eye" theory, but not abiding in any of the limitations which you may find. I have found that at times when I leave my body, I do not have a body... just a concious awareness.

I think that the ability to see in this fashion is on the lower end of the possibilities in which it can be used. I would suggest meditating alot more provided you are in a positive and optimistic state of mind. Personally, If I do breathing exercises I have learned to enter it quickly at will. For me, when it intensifys other dimensions become visible, and spirits at thought. For you it could be entirely different...

Yay!

Thank you for that answer :)
I guess even if this is new and strange to me, it is just the very begining of what others can do.
I'm not exactly looking for a label as it is probably all connected and doesnt really mean anything, I am just trying to understand a bit more.....and maybe have someone else who is able to understand and offer some guidance.
I will definitely start to do more deep meditaions, I think I am in a positive state of mind at the moment, and it also seems that things are changing for the better for me

meditate. don't push it too hard. Relax and during meditation, intend on seeing more. It's like a fun little puzzle, but the harder you "try" the more elusive it is. Its like the feeling of confidently withdrawing any element of force, and clearly intending to push through the dark for me. Then... it all becomes visible. I am so happy for you!

Precious words! We all have a "timer" inside of us and when the time is right we start opening ourselves to larger experiences. You are doing fine! Trust the process! :hug2:

That is very true.
Thanks for the responces, it does seem that the harder I try to push it sometimes the harder it is to get it to work. And it is better when I am relaxed and taking my time. Looks like I will need patience and alot of meditation ;)

I read this last night which might explain some of it: After and OBE "your chakras may go haywire. You've broken the barrier between the two realms of reality, and your newly awakened senses are having to interprit the strange astral input. You will have to spend some time accustoming yourself to what each feeling means." I'm not sure if there have been any other effects at the moment, but my ability to stay focused during meditation seems to be getting better

Hi Nicola,

yes we do have similar posts dont we lol!

For my experience im unsure if im just very relaxed and in deep state of trance etc or its the precurser to AP...its hard to say as I know we all have different ways of getting there, doing etc..

Like you..im better these days at focusing on my state when im laying down etc...however I do notice alot more mental noise going on if im thirsty or hungry at bed time...so now i eat a little something, just someting small to stop my mind doing overtime (odd how they link)

Something else thats helped me..is by realising that our thoughts are largely involuntary..just as a heartbeat or breath can be...so when thoughts come up..i have become better at just watching them float past..not pondering on them..

Hope it all gets more interesting lol!

It does seem like you were having some sort of OBE. Depending on the person you talk to, theyd describe it in different ways. What expereience do you feel you had??

Like most things it takes practice, like like a martial art or drawing. The more you practice the easier you will be able to do it. The Hardest part is trying to relax, and not let your mind wonder. LOL. The best advice i can give you is NOT to think, just be in that moment and let it speak to you.

I agree with glowstone, leaving your body hungry, or needing to go to the bathroom is a BIG distraction LOL.

Something I try to do, is to listin at different levels. Ill focus on sounds closest to me, then focus on sounds outside, and go further and further. Its a great way to relax, and work on some focus..

I would say that I had an OBE, at first I thought it might have just been part of a dream, but looking back after learning more about it and realising that I can see things as they are I feel differently. Its hard to explain what it felt like exactly, as I am sure other people will know.

Glowstone, our posts are similar lol. I Agree with what you said. I think I am able to focus and not get too distracted with thoughts anymore, I dont think I understand how to just observe them and let them go quite yet.

Last night while I was meditating I began to get weird sensations in my body like I was rocking back and forth, I read people feeling vibrations before they AP, I'm not sure if was that or not, as I didnt hear any noise and it didnt feel quite like vibrations, it was a bit like my body was pulsating. I'm not sure how to explain....

Glowstone
18-01-2011, 12:01 AM
Hey..yeah rocking is good!

Its odd that happened to me..then it switched to swaying..like a tree in the wind...really odd!

energy is all about waves...if you were swaying..think of it like waves...the energy is flowing within you..good!!:hug3:

NicolaRose3
18-01-2011, 12:13 AM
Oh right! actually waves is a good way to describe it...it was like being made of water and being part of the sea, going up and down and making rolling motions

Glowstone
18-01-2011, 12:21 AM
yeah definatly..everything is a wave....energy, light.. sound..all waves!

Alan watts the british philosopher suggested that we are all too "straight" in the modern world..and that we need to be more like a "wiggle"....

Nature "wiggles"...it never travels in a straight line but changes and flows up, down, back to front...and so on!..

So when you "wiggle" your on a wave..and waves flow...:-)

very good stuff lol

I have not managed to astral project again yet. I still think I am a bit too scared, so maybe I am not ready.

I can still see with my eyes shut though. For some reason it seems to work best when I am in a fairly dark place. I've been trying to develope it so that I can see energy or something unusual(?) or to look at something in a different direction, ie not what is right in front of me, I dont think anything is really happening yet though. But the other night as I was staring at the room and trying not to focus on anything in particular I began to see wispery shadows, not sure how to describe it, but it was like seeing a grey wind moving about in front of my face. I'm not sure if I was starting to see into something new, or maybe my eyes (which were closed :P) were playing tricks on me?

Hi, NicolaRose & welcome to the forum!

I too am experiencing seeing thru closed eyes tho' it is not as developed as what you are sharing here..

I had the same questions -- i.e. Are my eyes a little open and I don't know it? Am I envisioning something from memory? Am I just more sensitive & picking up lots of light thru my eye lids??

I still haven't made sense of exactly what is going on (the mechanics of it all), but I suspect the 'why' is as simple as that we are -- in varying degrees & in different ways --- becoming who we really are...

Bringing our spiritual self or soul thru to our physical experience...

I too have been intensely interested in the who/where/what & why's of all this development, but second Dogninja's post (which I love!) which is all about taking it easy & relaxing when it comes to these experiences..

Everything is governed by Divine Order.. All is perfect Now.. All will be revealed in time...

I have to remind myself frequently not to get too caught up in my THOUGHTS about what is happening and just BE..

That being said, I am interested to follow your development in this area as I have rarely seen a thread or post that addressed this particular phenomenon and would like to see where it leads you.

Many blessings on your journey!

Ok, that sounds good then, I will try to carry on with that :)

EarthMamma, thank you for your responce, I understand what you are saying. It seems like when I am trying too hard to focus on what is going on or figure out how I am seeing things, then that is when my eyes start to open or I start getting confused. For the most part, I beleive that when I am in the right state I am seeing everything as it is through closed eyes (its just that if I cover my eyes with a blindfold I cant see, so it feels like I should be asking myself how I am supposed to be seeing through my eyelids or from a different place when I cant see through a blindfold)

I am finding it easier to control now, if I am really tired or trying to sleep I can just lay in darkness, although if I do see a patch of light and focus on it then suddenly I can see everything again. It also feels like I am opening or closing eyelids when I am choosing to see or shut it down.

I had an interesting experience yesterday while I was trying to see my aura :) I was listening to an Isochronic Tone that I downloaded (http://www.iso-tones.com/tones.html, I don't know if anyone else has tried using these or knows if they are good or bad) while sitting down and I was staring at my hands and body, with my eyes closed as that just seemed to feel better, after a while I saw a few different things, like light around the edges of my finger tips, and I then started to see green, it would appear around my hands when I stayed looking in the same place or sort of appear all around my body, I also saw some patches of purple but they didnt seem to last as long. The green was quite bright and a bit yellowey, not sure what that means in terms of auras.

When it had finished I tried again but this time I sat facing the mirror that is in my room, it took a bit longer but I saw the green appearing again in front of my body, and then at one point I was looking at my face and it just seemed to change into a muddyish green/yellow colour.

And then a weirder thing happened...lol. I was staring at my face again and trying not to focus too hard and it sort of seemed like my appearance was changing, my skin looked a bit grey and it was like my face was expanding or getting smaller as I looked at it in different ways. I think my features started to look like a mans, there were shadows around my chin and checks, and it started to change even more, it looked like I had a dark beard or facial hair and I actually looked exactly like a friend of mine, that made me feel weird, so I blinked a bit and moved about and my face went back to normal. I have no idea what happened there or what that was supposed to represent (or if maybe I was just imagining it or something)

Stabilize, then tune it. Easy to slip out of it if you use too much force, or are motivated by desire,or are emotionally responsive to what you first see...
cultivate discernment in your observations by staying neutral and getting confirmations. 2 cents from dogninja.

Makes sense :) I will try to do that more, I can understand how suddenly recognising something or wanting to see it will make it happen even more or cause you to misjudge what you are seeing.

I did try that meditation again the other night, I didnt get too far with it but I saw green again

I get that at times, I call the segments "phases". I get in that when i wake up and stabilize semiconcious. It feels like your internal, and external energy is fluid. Also, you could equate the heightened sensitivity to becoming hyperaware of body movements. Many times when fully concious I can feel myself sway, but this is different, like, loss of human form, gnomesayin?

I have been able to "see" through closed eyes while trying to fall asleep. Walls, furniture, my body- all subtle black shapes, no light or detail.

I have the exact same symptom NicolaRose, and it started somewhat 10 years ago... I can say I am somewhat sure it is the third eye now.

Though I did not do anything in particular to develop it, I can control it a lot better now.

Example:

1. I couldn't sleep when it first started, it's like trying to sleep while my eyes are open. Now I can open/close, possibily, the third eye at will. (As simple as closing and opening physical eyes, don't know how to give you a walkthrough on that though, lol)

2. Close my physical eyes, open the other one, on the street. I see 5 people walking pass me, open my physical eyes, there's only 2 people. Close it back, switch over. I still see 5 people, lol. I still say *** sometimes.

3. When it's too dark, I close my physical eyes and open the other. It's like night vision googles, I can see a lot clearer, lol. (Though not as clear as when there's light+using physical eyes)

4. Wasn't able to see through anything but my eye lids when it first started. Now I can sort of see through everything... Hey, I haven't tried the walls yet, gonna try it later (lol)

There are a lot more symptoms aside from those.
Currently can't see too far away yet though, don't know why. It's like the third eye is only half open, or it needs some glasses, ****...

Anway, do tell me if you've found a way to develop this thing further.
