Can someone explain LOA?
I don't really understand law of attraction. How can we really have control over what we attract to ourselves? For example, say you are an extremely healthy person, but you become ill. In what sense have you manifested that illness? I'm sure it's a simple concept, but to apply in real life seems overwhelming. I mean couldn't it just be what disaster you face during the day depends on chance?

check out Abraham Hicks (on YouTube) for a whole host of videos that
deal with LoA. here's one posted 5/1/2016:

one way of thinking about LoA is to consider where things congregate.
like attracts like: if you want to find a tree, go to a forest, if you're
looking for water, search at the river (pond/lake, etc).

Bashar, a channeled extraterrestrial entity has "5 Basic Laws of Creation",
of which #4 closely resembles the law of Attraction.
here's a link to that info:

Hi,
There is science and spiritual teachers who advocate that our thoughts have energy which influences physical reality. The law of attraction is one example of that principal.
Some day we will all know that disease comes from the mind. Our physical body is constantly examining our thought process and does its best to create in our body what we have placed our focus on.
In my world there are no chance occurrences. I find myself asking questions like "why did that happen?". I get answers which help me to appreciate the power of mind over matter.
I hope that you find these thoughts helpful.
John

The LOA and the law of Karma are closely related.
What you give out you get back.
This counts for positive as well as negative actions; mental, verbal and physical.
With every action one rearranges the Universe for oneself.
That's why some say that one plays this game of life (from a certain perspective) alone too.
Positive actions (mental, verbal and physical) attract positivity.
Negative actions does the opposite.
It is indeed possible that a healthy person who acts negative can attract sickness.
Ancient masters knew this and always adviced to carefully choose ones actions to avoid problems is one's life.
p.s.
Just bad luck exists too and has nothing to do with LOA or karma.
Just the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't pretend that this is necessarily an easy thing to accept, but I don't think that there is ever any "bad luck", only things that we don't understand, but still can learn from. Maybe an apparently bad experience is something that seems arbitrary and we might tell ourselves that it shouldn't have come to be in this universe, but that doesn't mean that God has not ordered the world aright. Wayne Dyer once commented that we sometimes in effect tell the universe, "that God's plan doesn't work, and mine does", and that that's an insidious thing to say-- as it is to attribute arbitrary, random, meaningless acts to Him. Source is always good, and always providing us with valuable lessons. If you can't see the lesson, simply make that an object of meditation; ask, What is the lesson in this experience?
Not that I'm trying to overwhelm you with this metaphysical stuff.

Wow! I never thought of it that way. Interesting..I guess changing your beliefs is mental work, especially when your raised on traditional values.

beliefs appear to be mental constructs.
they can indeed be changed.
to be "raised" a particular way is to have had a structure provided that has
allowed a person to communicate and grow into adulthood, at which point
they become responsible for their actions (and the belief structures that
inform them of how to act "properly").
changing or modifying a belief structure is a project of maturity.
it is a mental activity, but the proper guide (in my opinion) for this work
is found in the heart, at the core of being.
