What if we were unique,that is the only inhabited planet in THIS universe,at the moment the vast starry skies seem pretty dead ,of "us "type life.Probes and listening devices dont seem to have come up with a contact to a great galactic confederation,it must be several decades now since radio signals were sent searching to find our space brothers. As of now no reply.Well perhaps there,s no one out there.The statistics tell us the universe is awash with life ,o.k. where is it ?,dont they want to know us? or are we truely a "one off"

I believe that we are not the only life out there, maybe the aliens haven't replied to us because they don't want to communicate with humans.

The cheetah on the Serengeti, the shark in the deep ocean may have never encountered a human before. Neither one has a clue what the new collar or thing attached to his fin is. Each has been yanked out of his element, physically altered in some way, then plopped back into home territory with a new appendage in the name of human science. We don't attempt to talk with these creatures, we capture them, treat them as humanely as possible then study them.

Can the cheetah conceive of a cell phone? The shark knows how to communicate with other sharks but does he have the first inkling how to write English?

Just because we don't 'see something' with our current technology doesn't mean that alternate technologies can't also exist. By definition, like the cheetah and shark, these would be completely outside our experience. It would be impossible for the receiver at Aricebo to pick up on telepathic messages from Alpha Centauri.

For all but the most hardened skeptic there is plenty of data, hard, physical data (like my example of a radio transmitting collar, or fin tag with GPS) to allow a person to draw the logical conclusion that one, if not many extraterrestrial species, have visited earth and interacted with it's inhabitants.

Are there hoaxes, mis-identifications and delusional people? Certainly; I'd bet that more than half the cases have some mundane explanation.

It will take like billions of years before that radio signal reaches some other galaxy where potential life could exist. So yeah, I wouldn't count on that for the moment. But, life would exist, I'm certain of it.

the statistics account for the entire universe, not the little grain of sand that we've currently mapped (not even explored). we know of 9 planets (if you include pluto) in our solar system, and one of them has life (thats 11% chance of life just as we know it here locally). but if there were no other life, then its up to us to have as much sex as possible and spread our waste throughout the universe...
