Tact isn't always an easy thing to demonstrate but it's a noble thing to aspire towards.

Isn't there another word for that labelled 'compassion'?

Well yes, but the tact comes in on NOT saying the wrong thing. That moment one takes to stop an thrink first then open one's mouth or let one's fingers move on the keys.

Is tact about appearing kind or sympathetic, when inside you are simply feeling what you really feel?

I dont think so, I think its learning to be whom one really is. For one's that can feel another one can FEEL that OMG from them. Better to find a way to be honest without being hurtful.

I believe there is a time for tact over hone
sty....if a man has lost his leg and is likely to die, one need not spell it out, but just tell him it'll be ok.

But tact can also be a 'tactical' way of manipulation, pretense or plain dishonesty.

I pick up how people are feeling and I find tact quite upsetting....most of the time, honesty and working on your own feelings towards others to develop genuine kindness is prefferred.

I do too if I open to it I feel everything they are. HOW one comes to deal with that is a personal thing but for me its in feeling how I would feel if I said it. I have learned to tune out the brain an listen to the Gutt. Its not easy and I have that OMG come in an at times ones's do feel that but I use ttact in explaining why. Choose one's words carefully and have patients to explain them more if need be.
