The Buddha or so-called enlightened state is simply one who has awkened to the true nature of being. In truth this is really what people refer to as God, simply awakening to what already is.
There isn't a God out there creating life that you are the outcome of, there is just One life, One beingness. You could say that we are that One life, this One beingness, but it's not that we are that personally, it's just that there is nothing other than that.
The problem lies with the mind creating a you and other, a you and God where the two have no real substance/existence; this is what Jesus taught when he talked of making the two into One..

inspirit: I think it would be beneficial to society if people would be willing to work toward finding their religious commonalities, such as the belief in one God, and coming to agreement about God's perfection and role as our Creator.

The world will never be united by religious beliefs, because they are learned and held in the mind individually.

Instead, go for discovering the experience of Oneness beyond the mind, within and all around yourself.

Unifying the world has to be founded in the true unity of our universal being.
