It was recorded in a reading by Edgar Cayce, that a young family lost their baby - I cannot remember the exact details , either there was a miscarriage or the baby was still-born.
Cayce stated this was to satisfy a karmic debt.
From your perspective this may be harsh and unkind. Perhaps even cruel.
From a Soul perspective such views change radically. How do you tell a child that its suffering is to pay of a karmic debt? Indeed?
Perhaps you should not address that child, but address that soul? Why did that soul come here to suffer? Why did that soul choose such pain and suffering? I suspect from a limited 3D perspective we will never know.

From your limited 3D perspective perhaps yes. The earth plane is known as a plane of suffering. Why else do we come here?

Our brother reviewed science, he reviewed the statements of creation, for his own spirit considered himself creator...he even told us so...he called the Creator his Father.
The origins of our spirit manifestation on Earth is of angelic spiritual presence...or the light beings. Presences altered by the change of light and sound. These beings are the holy presence, for unlike Earth's atmosphere, they are not images of angels.....the burnt light or evil light.
The reason we know this advice is true, for the atmosphere already formed as an atmosphere a long time before spiritual life emerged as the higher presence.
We gave the atmosphere a past review, and in perusing the past information (creation) then imposed self life and spirit values to the condition of creation using our own life reviews....as the creation documents depict.
We manifested because our origin parents....a male/female manifested and their spiritual higher advice in the channeled messaged told them that they had been advised to not have sex......because they would have demanifested.
Manifestation and demanifestation of spirit was proven by the personage of Sai Baba...and other spiritual presences in life.
Therefore if our parents did not have sex, no human life would be living on Earth...therefore by factual spiritual reviews there is no such advice as karma.
Human life considered karma when by choice, the life was changed. The inheritance of a changed life, changed our spirit...and we considered that we owned this outcome because we changed our life....by trying to be Creators.
As the story is about the Inquisition, this ancient historical review determines that cruel human laws as criminal acts themselves were placed as a condition upon the community. This was to prevent the community from using the evil documents that depicted the same acts in the literature.
The literature related to the spiritual condition of consciousness reviewing creation and alchemic changes...changes that attacked the spiritual life of ancient humans.
This information was gained by using the consciousness to consider acts of evil...known to be acts of evil for the literature discussed the acts.
This is why the hard line reform of this punishment was considered to be an equal justice when considering what harmful attacks of spirit occurred to the ancient society.
Therefore it is only common sense and its applications that advise why particular chosen punishments were considered.
