Hi Peter, it's certainly true that i really mainly know the Christian version, was there another group in religious authority at that time?
Do you know why they received such bad press from the Christians?
Also, is rabbi a later word?
Peace to you

Here you go:
102. Jesus said, "Damn the Pharisees! They are like a dog sleeping in the cattle manger: the dog neither eats nor [lets] the cattle eat."
1. Pharisee A member of an ancient Jewish sect that emphasized strict interpretation and observance of the Mosaic law in both its oral and written form.
Jesus always talked about the journey inwards to find the father. Not in books or in the sky somewhere.
3. Jesus said, "If your leaders say to you, 'Look, the (Father's) kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the (Father's) kingdom is within you and it is outside you. When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty."

Why do we get Christian preaching in the Jewish section of the site?
If there were Islamic preaching anywhere else but the Islamic section something would soon be done.
Special allowances for Christians it seems...

Probably because Jesus was a Jew....
Does it really matter?

Sorry,
The post above mine asked the question from a Christian perspective did it not?
Also true Christians would disagree with my post.
Shows very few actually listen to what he had to say.
All the best,
Tom

The Jewish High Court aka the Sanhedrin was made up mostly of Pharisees and Sadducees.
Below is an excerpt from a Jewish website and perspective
"Rabbinic Judaism rejects any connection with the trial of Jesus with or without a "sanhedrin". Modern Judaism is called Rabbinic Judaism and claims descent from the Pharisees, a group at odds with the Sadducees. It is possible that the trial was as a Sadducean illegal court, or perhaps the details as we know them today are incomplete or inaccurate. Josephus (Ant. 20:9, etc) generally portrays the Sadducees as antagonistic to early Christianity, while the New Testament (John 3:2, Acts 5:34, etc) portrays Pharisees as being tolerant. The role of the Sadducees in trying and executing early Christians is explicitly referenced in Josephus. In 62 CE the Jewish priest and Sadducee, Ananus, convened the Sanhedrin in his house and condemned Yaakov [James], half-brother of Yeshua, who is then summarily executed.[Josephus, ibid]"

Unfortunately I'm unable to post links to my sources. There is a website "the sanhedrin dot org" where I pulled much of this info and also the Jewish Encyclopedia where I pulled information on Gamaliel.
Also, to be honest the influence that the school of Hillel had on the teachings of Jesus must be stated, if one is to understand first century Judaism and the beginnings of Christianity. There was within the Pharisees different schools of thought IE Hillel and Shammai. Many of the quotes attributed to Jesus were quotes that had been made earlier by Hillel (such as the Golden Rule).
Also of note the Apostle Paul was a Pharisee (and remained proud of it according to Scriptures) from the School of Hillel, apparently a student of Gamaliel who was the grandson of Hillel himself.

Maybe so, but 99% of his followers today (Christians) are not.
I think so. Respect for others beliefs - especially when on their 'turf' (eg Christian, Jewish, Islamic or any other section of the site) - is only polite.

Could your opinion not then have been given without resort to preaching?

Irrelevant to this discussion, though it raises another question (for discussion in the Christian section) "What makes a true Christian?" I'm sure they'll be many different ideas.

By 'he' you mean Jesus I take it? Perhaps you'll find more receptive ears in the Christian section of the site than the Jewish one?
Likewise, I'm sure

See what Religion does, it separates people ( on their turf ) even on here.
I haven't read anything which is disrespectful.....
