i taught my eldest a little relaxation when he was all of three as he was so full of energy. i used to talk to him and he would follow along and he was always asleep before it was finished, his 18 now! i do this with my self even now.
i think of my toes and imagine them tense and then relax, may be do this a few times till im sure they are relaxed, see them falling asleep, and very slowly work your way up your feet, ankles calfs... all the way to the top of the head. i have never managed to get all the way to my head. you can add white light to the areas you have done or add your own calming things.
another thing, whats under your bed? dont have photos, old bills, letters anything that is unresolved under your bed as the energy can effect your sleep if your that close to it.

hi weimin,

I am thinking a meditation isn't exactly going to be helpful in falling asleep . Why not try reading a boring book or staying up wayyyyy past your bedtime ~ excellent opportunity to chat with those on the forum who aren't in your time zone !

I had given myself a trigger during meditation. I'd say the word "relax" to interrupt the internal ramblings, and I'd hold my baby finger when I was in the total relaxed state. That way, when I wanted or needed to become instantly relaxed, I could grab my pinky and say relax, and there I was. It worked whether I was going to an important meeting, or trying to fall asleep. It served to get rid of that extra stuff, and allow my body to just focus on what it needed to be doing at that time.

This isn't medical advice.
Great ideas in this thread! I plan on using some myself. The valerian root is something I have done. I've used it before, and ran out, so I picked more up, and took ONE a couple weeks ago to help me sleep. I slept for 12.5 hours. It was amazing! Just get advice from someone at a health food store first, and do not take on an ongoing basis.
