Despite being rich, if miserly, such a person is as a beggar with a Pearl.

Despite sitting on a mountain of gold, if heartless, such a person is as a pauper with treasure.

"We should do good for the sake of goodness, not in order to become a 'good person'. If we are a 'good person' then we will suffer. Just be a human being. Otherwise we will always be annoyed by those who are not 'good people'. The Buddha taught non-attachment, we should not even be attached to goodness because it leads to suffering."

There are a lot of fake Buddha quotes on the internet, especially on social media sites, so its always a good idea to look at the list on this "Fake Buddha Quotes" website:

Peace is within oneself to be found in the same place as agitation and suffering. It is not found in a forest or on a hilltop, nor is it given by a teacher. Where you experience suffering, you can also find freedom from suffering. Trying to run away from suffering is actually to run toward it.
Ajahn Chah

Do not try to become anything. Do not make yourself into anything. Do not be a meditator. Do not become enlightened. When you sit, let it be. What you walk, let it be. Grasp at nothing. Resist nothing.
Ajahn Chah

Happiness and suffering do not depend on being poor or rich, they depend on having the right or wrong understanding in our mind.
Ajahn Chah

You are your own teacher. Looking for teachers can’t solve your own doubts. Investigate yourself to find the truth - inside, not outside. Knowing yourself is most important.

Please no one get angry but "fart fart" is one of my favorites, as working on my enlightenment has lead to situations where I feel like the younger man in this story, that I'm basically up one moment and down the next. Whenever I feel like getting very angry, I remember that story.

Hmmm, I wonder if he was bipolar.
