Recently I have come across several different sources specifically mentioning that listening to Mozart's music creatively inspires one in their artistic endeavors.

Does anyone do this and do you believe it enhances your creativity ?

Do you have a favorite Mozart selection to recommend ?

I'm pretty sure Mozart would have been an inspirational force for many creative minds: Freud, Einstein, Kant, Tesla, Darwin, to name a few. And of course a multitude of musicians as well.

I have been collecting those little bits of wood that get left over from burning incense sticks. I couldn't say why at the time!
Then I noticed a pair of tourmaline stones I have which look like very small blackbirds eggs. So I get the idea to make a nest for them using the sticks, and they can sit undisturbed within a houseplant.
But, I put the art project on hold until I could figure out what I could use for nest padding.

So I tried a little experiment today. I hummed a Mozart tune and thought about what padding I might find in the house somewhere...dum dum dum dee dee dee dee dee dee dum dum dum dumty dumty dumty dum, dee dee dee dee dee duuuuummmmm... ...I'm sure you get the idea.

When suddenly, vwalla...I could use cotton wool dipped in very thin green poster paint. Perfect!
Which is what I'm doing just now!

Very creative art project with the sticks, your tourmaline stones and of course, with the nesting material idea !

Minuet,Mozart,Beethhoven. My kids got me into it because it's a big money market in the children items. It amazes me how easy it puts babies to sleep.

Here are a few I recommend. When you start listening to them over and over,its pretty powerful and infectious

Debussy Clair de Lune (a personal fav)
moonlight sonata
Bach- minuet in G major
Canon in D

My favorite classical composers are from the Baroque era: Vivaldi, Bach, Handel...but I do listen to Mozart some, and like BlueClover, I bought CD's for my kids to fall asleep to -- (which is why they're geniuses and I'm not!)

I'm with muileag on the Baroque composers. I love the richness offered with the counterpoint music. I would also include Purcell to the mix.

They say tho about Mozart that he was channelling his music. Given his prolificness and the prodigy in him - there was a gift going on.

I'm crazy about classical music, absolutely crazy. Not all. Daddy wrote words for that for me when I was born so I get all goopy when I hear that. For a man who was deaf to produce such wonder - well. Just well.

So recommending a favourite Mozart - well - that's a difficult one as it depends on the music you like - symphony, concerto, sonata -- all very very different in texture. Thank you for your music recommendations and links ! And yes, I forgot Beethoven, basically anything classical would probably work then . I just hope it doesn't put me to sleep when painting in the wee hours of the morning !

I love all your suggestions ladies.
Interesting how we've all worked classical music into putting our babies to sleep and/or relaxing them.
Because of this, my younger son secretly loves it. He'll never admit it at age fifteen, not a chance, but when it's playing in the background his mind wanders and never suggests I turn it off. lol
I'm pretty sure his early, peaceful memories of it come into play at those rare moments...and I secretly love it.
