Was I about to ap?

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I was lying on my bed watching my lightbulb very intently. I've discovered that I can cause them to flicker so I went into an almost hypnotic state while gazing at the lampshade on the ceiling to see if it would do it. I felt quite tired but reasonably alert. After a short time I was aware of a ringing in my ears which I sometimes get, but it increased and I realised it was exactly the same ringing as I get during the occasional times when I'm half asleep and about to go into sleep paralysis. I focussed on this ringing and it got so intense that I could feel my body wanting to paralyse. If I had gone with it I suspect it would have done, but I felt frightened as I've never had sleep paralysis sensations while awake, and I was certainly awake.

I wondered if I was about to AP? Could what I was doing have triggered it randomly even while I was awake? I was very intently focussed on the bulb when I experienced the ringing in my ears.

I don't see why it couldn't of been possible, you have to be in a deeply relaxed state to AP, closing your eyes just makes it easier.

I do notice the ringing in my ears intensifying whenever I get close to APing. I've yet to AP "on demand" but I can tell I'm getting close when my ears go silent or the ringing intensifies.

Everytime I quiet my mind during meditation I experience the same ringing. It never intensifies or goes away until after my session has ended, so I would be curious to see how things go for you in the future.

Thanks for the replies. I often get ringing in my ears (connected with meditation, NOT tinnitus) but I was aware this particular sort was linked with wanting to go into sleep paralysis, which has never happened before while awake. I will see if it happens again and let you know if I progress further.

Ya know, as I read your response I can attest to the Paralysis portion of that...thinking back normally the ringing starts to occur as my body goes numb...interesting
