i think i get what you mean; we are perhaps on the same page then just different decorations for it.
But regardless of that I'm always interested to hear different perspectives on the bible, so, if you want to share I would be interested!

Helpful in understanding this is the comparison of the Sermon on the Mount(Matthew…chapters 5-7) and Jesus teaching the crowds(Luke 6:17-49). One can see that in large part that these are the same teachings.
Matthew 5:48….”Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” In the verse from Luke at the identical time…Luke 6:36 says: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Now for me these 2 verses taken together help define each other. If asked to define perfect many Christians might say to be without sin….which other Scriptures indicate is impossible. But to be merciful is an act of forgiveness after judgment…..is understanding…and most importantly an act of love. God is love and, for me, love is the perfection of God. After all it aligns with the 2 great commandments. And for our understanding we can visualize being merciful….something within our reach. Who can honestly visualize being perfect ?

In regards to perfection being a moving target think of a dog race. The dogs chase a mechanical target….the winning dog comes closest to the target but never catches the target. But without the target there would be no race. We can only chase perfection IMO…..

Happiness is the result of an enlightened mind whereas suffering is caused by a distorted mind.

molearner -
oh i got so tired of chasing stuff at some point... i like the be still quote better
lol...
but yeah you are right, love seems important. It is still very difficult for me though... I guess if I would grab at some idea of what love means and live through that that would make my life easier. but i find it hard to pin down... somehow I've never been able to find a way to 'love' at the same time that I know what it is. So right now the only things I know for sure are 'don't demand my own way' and 'leave others room' and the rest is still a mystery...

Perfecton...
Instead of trying to make every moment perfect you can try and see the perfection in every moment.
