Would you consider music to be a spiritual thing?

It's an interesting question that just crossed my mind.

I think music is magic, it's powerful and can effect us all strongly and differently. Do you not think it's magical how music makes us have this urge to dance or move? It's hard not too.

Music can be helpful in many ways, it can help with mental health, listening or making music, it can change your moods I believe, (Especially me, I suffer with Bipolar disorder and I try to avoid deep and dark music when I am feeling low because it can make it worse.)

I do think drum circles can be a spiritual thing, when I go to them I get this feeling of love and peace, knowing all of us coming together to create something beautiful, not only the music, but the energy & mood. I'm not sure if that is considered spiritual but I count it.

What is your guys thoughts on this question? I'd love to hear them!

Depends, because I suppose we can all agree that listening to meaningless garbage such as Justin Bieber would do more harm than good. I am a metalhead and most of us avoid things like spirituality, but I get really motivated by some uplifting metal bands with meaningful lyrics about life, nature, history, personal struggles, fantasy, and mythology. And no, I can pretty much confirm that metal is not all about satanism, darkness, and violence.

I have a metal-head friend, he listens to some good bands, you are right though, metal is so mis-understood.

He showed me this vegan metal band, they were awesome!

I think so, music, in whichever form, can bring up some powerful emotions! Moves the spirit and whatnot. And metal, yeah, when I'm feeling good I like to put on Metallica and Stone Sour...when I'm upset, Slipknot...when I'm happy, heck, I'll put on Shania Twain! Some binaural beats or Enya at night to relax. I have no prejudices against music (except gangsta rap and the aforementioned Justin Bieber!). I think if it touches your soul and causes thoughts, growth, processing of feelings, it can be a spiritual thing :)
