Do new spirits (spirits recently crossed over) have a more difficult time lowering their vibrations to connect with someone than more "seasoned" spirits?

It's not necessarily down to how recently they've passed over but also to how spiritually progressed they are.

Also one needs to think on that any newly discarnate individual may have way more interest in their new environment than in trying to communicate with others still incarnate in their old one.

Think about things this way. Imagine a holiday/vacation destination that excites and interests you. When you arrive, the sun's out, the skies are blue, the sea is inviting, the mountains are breath-taking, the food's fabulous and you're surrounded by interesting new folk or friends you've met and loved before..... or whatever scenario you prefer.

Now, ask yourself, would you then bust a gut trying to telephone home on an unfathomable system you don't know how to work and which has no voice-mail feature - you wouldn''t be able to leave a message! For those who've been there before, and know the system, it will be less hard than for those who haven't or who don't remember much about things. But still you'd still need to find a telephone exchange that could handle your long-distance call (a medium) and your intended receiver would have to know you were trying to reach them - you could be ringing forever when they're away from home and they'd never know! Or are you gonna make the most of all the things you're desperate to try for the first time or do again and think about 'ringing home' some other time?

Every individual will have a personal response to their new situation and at one end of the spectrum some will be desperate to try to contact loved ones left behind. At the other end will be those who don't give it more than a fleeting thought.

Those at one end will do almost anything until they get through and the others.....well you get my drift.

you have given no reason for the passing. Was it the right time for the individual to pass? Or did the person spent a fruitful life and live long?
With all things being equal. Well, it depends. Some individuals, come back now and again, pop in so to speak, and check on the ones they love. My mother is on the other side and she was an atheist. She worked really hard in life to make every one of her children's life better and suffered a long time. Yet she pops in every now and again and says hi to me. It depends on other people too, some people are harder to communicate with. The rest of my family have a hard to connecting with Mum, I feel. So they would say perhaps it is hard for others to receive her messages. Yet they are very difficult people to communicate with.

Also, there are different spirits that live on other levels. I think it has more to do with people already here. They are the receivers. It is like a two way radio, with the individuals being the radios. Some people are had to communicate with and thus are not really good receivers of information. The more progressed a spirit being is, the better able they to communicate. Just because a person is "on the other side" does not mean that they are good communicators. People think there are just to places. Here and there. Yet this is not so. There are many different levels of places in the spirit world, their are higher or more finally tuned individuals that work on many different levels. So yes, the more evolved the soul the better they are able to communicate. Yet, just because we are here on the earth level does not mean we are unevolved. There are many evolved souls which have chosen to incarnate on the earth who are very progressed. The earth is very different than many other levels of the universe. Normally, the higher the level the more highly attuned the individual. But here on the earth, there is a mixture of different levels.

It was my grandmother and it was her time. She has passed a year ago. I have been trying for a little bit to connect with her, she finally came through to me in a meditation last week with a clear message. I know that she was very religious but not over spiritual with connection. I was told by a medium a couple of weeks ago that my grandmother said that she is happy that I am working on my spirituality because she was always afraid to do so. She live a very happy and full of life. I was given the gift of watching her cross over and observed for very long hours her talking with those who had come to help her cross. It was beautiful. At times she would laugh and say yes and then others she would scowl as if to say how the heck did you make it here.

How lovely. It is a great gift. Then you know that spirit communication is real. It is strange when people refer to it as "spirit" communication. As we are spirits which are housed in a body. Yet, of course, we are spirits too, and we are communicating now via the internet. Of course, people mean communication with others who are without a physical body.
