I know the feeling. I felt the same way after reading conversations with god by Neale Donald Walsch. It goes against most everything religions preach. It says to put yourself first above others. That betrayal of the self in order not to betray another is the highest betrayal etc. I'm glad you find something that resonates with you but I also highly recommend keeping an open mind and browsing the new age/occult section of the bookstore for other morsels to read instead of sticking to one book. Satanism has a lot in common with the new thought movement with the exception of the hexes and the vengeful stuff

1) I choose what is right for me. I don't follow something just because a book that I can relate to on a great level says it is so. I follow my own path, I do what I feel is right, which is pretty much what Satanism is about. Some parts in the Satanic Bible I don't agree with, or I don't see it is necessary. I don't exactly get off on labeling myself to anything... but I call myself a LaVeyan Satanist so I can get my basic beliefs out on the table without spelling all of them out.

Picking an choosing what is right for you instead of blindly following one person or path or book...Now thats COOL!

2) The "eye for an eye" ethic that LaVey speaks of, I think is taken a little too literally. I believe in getting revenge if someone harms you- or someone close to you- greatly, but only if it is a great problem. I think you really have to learn to forgive people, because thats the only way to really function this day and age. If someone shoots a pregnant woman with a shotgun, I think someone has every right to go beat the **** out of him (using that as an example because that happened around here recently). But if its something small, like a drunk fight, I'd say just put it behind you, because its not that big of a deal, regardless of who started it. Don't hold everything someone does to you against them. Really, just grow up. Its a bit immature to do so.

Well, he does say that if someone bothers you tell him to stop. If he doesnt stop, destroy him. Kind of extreme for my tastes but I get your point. Im not sure what I would do or how I would react if a someone did serious physical damage to a loved one. I know I would at the very least do everything in my power to get that piece of trash off the streets so it doesn't happen to someone else. What that would specifically entail I dont know but I would try not to feel vengeful about it. Vengeance IMO is an all consuming negative emotion that isnt physically or psychically healthy. You do have very enlightened views regarding forgiveness though. I didnt think satanists were into forgiveness at all.

I hope I answered your questions ;)

You did! Thank you! I however thought of one more question if you dont mind

Do satanists have any belief regarding what happens when one dies? Do they believe consciousness survives death of the physical body or are they like atheists who believe you completely cease to exist or something else altogether?

Thanks!

I'm open to new ideas, and if it suits me, or i agree with it, i'll support it openly. i like researching other ideas, regardless if i agree with it or not.

Some are, some aren't. I'd say the majority are, just because it would seem a bit silly to a lot of people to stay angry at someone your whole life. I think its healthy to practice all human emotions, negative or positive, but to limit yourself.

I can only speak for LaVeyan/Atheistic Satanists here when I say that we have no belief in afterlife. Ceasing to exist. We're more for a "here and now" belief system, make most out of life, have no regrets. Spiritual/Theistic Satanists probably have a different opinion on what happens "afterwords", though.

.

I have one more question for you if you dont mind. Have you or any other Laveyan satanist considered or attempted astral projection? Is this an idea you wish to research and experience? Why or why not? If so, how does that fit in with the overall doctrine of Laveyan satanism? Many have experienced this phenomenon and there are many books written about how to do it and there is even a topic on this forum dedicated to it.

Not that I've heard of. It isn't really covered in the Satanic Bible, but I am interested, as I'm sure many others are. Its one of those things one would have to make up their own mind about. :)

I AM impressed with your openness to new ideas and experiences instead of clinging and binding yourself to one specific book of words and rules (no matter what that book may be). Keep questioning, seeking and exploring with an open heart and mind DoctorSatan! And always, to thine own self be true! Thats what its all about!
