Mediatation question (weird experience)
Hi Everyone,
I am new to meditation. I had a little bit of experience with it about 12 years ago taking a yoga class in college as an elective, otherwise I have not really done it. On my new quest to get a better understanding of the universe and reality, and spirituality, I decided I would start practicing meditation. I meditated for the first time last night probably only about 8-10 minutes. The first 5 minutes were normal. I focused on my breathing, but tried to not give too much attention to other thoughts. When other thoughts arose, I acknowledged them, and sent them away. After about 5 minutes I felt like I was suddenly sitting in an infinite space with no walls ceiling or even floor. Not that I was floating, but that there just was no floor. I just existed in infinite space. I also felt...the best way I can think to describe it is as a whirling energy around my head and face. Then while all of this was going on I suddenly felt the presence of someone standing next to me on my left. So I guess what I am wondering is, is this typical? What did I just experience? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

No, its not typical after 5 mins meditation...lucky you.
So whats happening, well it could be that you reached a nice place, feeling the space and the energy floating around you, but then the ego kicked in and distracted you. It could be that you were given a carrott, to say `YES THIS IS THE PATH`. So keep practicing, see what happens as you focus longer and, enjoy it.

People becoming aware of what they have always experienced but never noticed is a very common experience in meditation. The most common in fact!
