The argument goes that I AM is only an idea until it is experienced....but...
The truth is that EVERYTHING is only an idea until it is experienced.
Sex is only an idea until it is experienced. Christ is the same. And God is only an idea until it is experienced too.
We go in search of experience.
I'm not sure that the I AM experience is the one I want. I want the God experience instead!
Does that make sense?

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru.

The so called I AM experience is the God experience, but we need to drop these as well to truly experience who we truly are, there still concepts.

It's experiencing your true nature that matters, whether you call it God or I Am or whatever.
Letting go of the ideas and names can open us beyond all that into simply feeling It within yourself.
Your true nature is silent. That's how you can recognize it.

But people ask "why believe in God?".....it is so that you gain the God experience.
Believing in God leads to experiencing God. Why is that so difficult to understand?
There is a HUGE difference between I AM and God - I know it and so does everyone else.
I Love God and I am scared of I AM.
Faith leads to experiencing God. Meditation leads to experiencing I AM. They are POLES apart.

What if one dropped the experience of this or that and just was?
I think sex does not fit into your analogy as sex to be experienced, is something outside of you. That is an external experience while God would be an internal experience, or a part of an individual.

I don't know.
How do ideas form?
One sees something, hears something, then what?
I ask then what? because seeing and hearing is already an experience.

Honza... This is a misconception.
First get into the experiencing the pure silent presence within and all around you... then see what it is for you.

I see what you mean Xan, but there is a difference between striving for I AM and striving for God.
Silence makes up much of the experience of I AM. But to me the God experience is more about PEOPLE. It is about ENJOYING maya and enjoying the world and not withdrawing into silent meditation.
God experience is inspirational - it makes me want to shout and sing and not sit in silence.
I am very sociable. I would rather spend time with friends and family or loved ones than meditate. You get WHAT YOU ASK FOR!
