It's like the teacher and the student. Teacher sitting on the beach with his finger in his belly-button meditating. Up pops one of his students menacingly clutching a sharp sword. Student says to the teacher "You promised me enlightenment and still I have not found it." The teacher replies "How bad do you want it?"
The student goes off "What do you mean, how bad do I want it. Is that some kind of an answer? You promised to teach me old man and yet I am still none the wiser. Tell me how to become enlightened, or I will slice off your head."
The teacher calmly stands and beckons his student to follow him down to the water. "I will show you" he says. The student, keen to finally know the secret, swiftly moves into the water, whereupon the teacher proceeds to hold his head under water. The student struggles wildly to raise his head and take a breathe but the teacher is relentless.
The student struggling, has now totally run out of breathe and is beginning to drown. One last immense effort, frees him from the teacher's grasp. He comes up spluttering and chokes out "Why did you do that?" The teacher replies "How badly did you want to breathe? When you want enlightenment that badly, then you shall have it."

Hiya not human
A few years ago I was sitting quietly. Meditating they would call it, although at the time I wasn't deliberately meditating. Heck, I didn't even know what meditation was.
And out of the blue I had a lovely experience. A few months later I read this...
"Solitude is freedom. It's an anchor, an anchor in the void. You're anchored to nothing, and that's my definition of freedom." - John Lilly
Which best described the experience I had.
Your words reminded me of the quote, so I thought I'd share.

Thanks Squatch....thats a beautiful description of groundlessness which I am learning to navigate, as all my points of reference went belly up a few months ago....its like learning to live all over again
PS I like your taste in music went through a mega Cocteau Twins stage a few years ago
