Can I remotely heal my mothers energy blocks/depression/old negative thought patterns
a) is it possible through meditation and intention alone?
b) is it spiritually ethical to do so without her knowledge? If it's healing and love, it can't do any harm, I would hope?
She is locked in a world of misery and stubbornness and I know she will never make the steps towards a happier life herself. She just doesn't seem to want to or know how...

No, it is not ethical to do healing with out her knowledge. It is her decision to decide she wants to be healed or receive healing. Without her wanting it, she can and most likely will block the healing from occurring.
We can not force another to change because we do not like whom they are. They have to make those decisions and changes themselves. She could be completely happy in her life. Whether we like it or not. And it is not for us to decide if she is or isn't.
For some they also enjoy playing the victim role in life, and revel in negativity. Not saying your mom does.
You could drop hints about making changes. Like giving her books on certain things to help peak her interest.

I agree, it would be unethical to dabble in your mother's life-plan by attempting a healing without her consent. You said it yourself, she does not want to change. However praying for her is not, as long as you stipulate in your prayers you do not wish to change the course of her path unless it is sanctioned by her higher self.

I agree with both linen and inner light, but not for the same reasons. Basically, you CAN'T help her - only she can do that. in order to help anyone you have to wait until they ask you- and no matter how much you would like to, until she reaches the place where she wants to get better, you can't do a thing. Perhaps you could leave Louise Hay's book 'You can Heal your Life' lying around and hope she looks at it.
