Smell of Death

This is weird. My mother died 3 years ago. I remember caring for her with her last two weeks remaining. I remember this smell days before she passed. It was definitely a different smell and one I will never forget. I read on Google that it was normal for a dying person to have that smell. BUT, recently one day the smell returned one night. I instantly sat still on my bed for a hour sniffing the air and freaking out because I remember that smell from my dying mother. Is this real? If so, what does it all means?

I agree.
The smell of death sometimes pays me a visit, though I'm sure it's one of my deceased loved ones.
Don't be frightened by it...embrace it.

I recall the smell of death from my Mother as she lay dying ...
Dying organs or something different inside dying (?), not sure ...
The nose has a strong memory; it will remember smells indefinitely even the most foul ...
I can't imagine a spirit sending something that unsettling ...
I tend to believe something triggered your nose to recall that stench rather than it being a sign from your Mother ...
But then again, it could be your nose is detecting something & the closest association it made is to death ...
Perhaps, a dead bird in the yard or a dead mouse in the house or something that could cause illness or is just unsanitary for you & your family ...
Hope this helps ...

I am so very sorry for your loss--Shanell.

My Beloved stayed with me--constantly--until his body was finally cremated.

At first--when he came to me--he still smelled of death and he was so very cold. I believe it is--because his body was in the morgue and he was afraid.

I told him that he shouldn't be afraid and that he did not need to smell like that anymore--then asked him to come and lie down with me--so that we could be warm and rest.

I was so very exhausted--after weeks of tending him. He calmed-down (after a time) and acclimated to the situation--then I could feel him stroking my hair--then he was able to communicate.

I believe it is a process and some are more in-tune to it than others.

I am certain that your Mother is with you and watching-over you and just wanted you to know that she was there.

Ever your friend,

LadyTerra

Lady Terra,

How lovely you could offer such comfort to your beloved and that he was able to accept it. I'm sorry for your loss.

Shanell,

I'm sure that must have been disconcerting to pick up that smell. I have had random smells during the night that were visits from loved ones. My Dad always smells like cherry vanilla pipe tobacco. Lovely. He came by on my son's birthday the last time.

But my MIL visited one night when her friend died and the smell literally lifted me off the pillow by my nose! They reeked of cigarette smoke and permanent wave solution. She had been a beautician and both were heavy smokers. No one smokes in my house and the windows were all closed up. The smell only lasted for a moment.

Your mother may be wanting you to know she is around you. It's quite possible there is another scent that you would connect with her. You might ask her to send you a whiff of a certain perfume or flower or food that would be meaningful. You can do this just by thinking to her.
