Hey I actually live in Baltimore myself about an hour away from DC and all the museums and I have been meaning to go personally to get a look at their tektite collection for the most part. Did you happen to see if they have a decent tektite collection and any Moldavite? I would love to see the Moldavite if they have any. Maybe you got some pictures of it if they do have some? Please let me know because ever since I became obsessed with crystals and gemstones, tektites especially I have been dying to go to Smithsonian.

I didn't see any Moldavite or tektites; however, there is an IMMENSE meteorite on display in the same room as the Hope Diamond. I"m talking HUGE, like I could easily wear the ring-shaped portion of the meteorite as a belt.

Oh that's a shame! I have looked at the website for the Smithsonian and it did show that they have tektites and Moldavites, perhaps they either weren't displayed or maybe they were at a different museum for the time being. I know museums swap and borrow items from others occasionally to switch things up and bring in visitors who have already seen the normal stuff they have. I think all nature based museums have tektites it's just a matter of finding them in the huge maze of stuff I suppose.
