Question Fake Citrine Useful?

So, I just figured out that my citrine is most likely fake. I've had it for years and its beautiful, but now feel as though it will not help me. (I've had it for years but only tried using it for healing, lately).

I cleansed and programmed it, but....

If it is a burnt amethyst, does it still retain the healing properties of an amethyst? Or do I just have a pretty but useless rock? :-(

It's a beautiful crystal, although its not in its natural state. So I wish there was more I could do with it.

Thanks so much!

I know it is disappointing to find out one of your crystal lovelies is baked....but the good news is it's not useless! :)

Here's a good article on fake citrine - http://www.crystalwind.ca/crystals/c...-any-good.html

Some Smokey Quartz is very light, almost champagne-colored. If it's super, super dark, there is a chance it's been irradiated.

I would think that baking it doesn't change it's crystalline makeup. It's still a crystal. The baking is done to change or enhance the color of many stones.

Baked or not it's still quartz, so if anything it still retains those quartz properties. The imperfections that give it its color do change by heat treating it, some of those inclusions disappear all together with the treatment (changing its color). So something does change but I wouldn't say it becomes useless. I know my natural citrine feels different from the heat treated one.

Hmmm...just wondering about this small smoky quartz point I just got. The point of it is very dark, pitch-black. I love it though, it's really pretty.

Well if the stone is definitely a fake that means it's either something else or glass. If it's something else and is an actual crystal or gemstone it is going to have some metaphysical properties most likely but not the exact same ones of Citrine of course. If it's glass it is going to be considered dead and be lifeless in which case the only real use for it would be in color therapy. Of course using a genuine piece of Citrine would be much more powerful in color therapy but the colors alone can produce effects. Your best bet is find out for sure if it's definitely a fake and if it is finding out if it's either just a different type of crystal or a true fake and is glass. A good way to find out would be dropping it on a table or flicking it with your finger. Most crystals will make a deep type of thumping or thud sound and glass will make a high pitch clinging type of sound.
