How did the belief in God start, compared to how did the belief in Self start?

We have two spiritual belief systems. The belief in God and the belief in Self (or Higher Self or I AM).

But how do you think that each of those belief systems started?

For what purpose? Or under what conditions?

What I am asking is what do you think PROMPTED the beginning of either belief system?

Belief isn't the same old thing, it changes over time. Old ones are abandoned and new ones are adopted... they evolve and are abandoned.

I think higher self is not a belief. Believing is not necessary anymore for me. I know it.

I guess people found this truth through experimenting, meditation etc.

I used the word belief loosely.

I experience God without having to believe. I feel Him.

I don't think you have to believe in Self or God. Both are an experience.

Maybe that is the answer to my question? Both practices of God and Self started with direct EXPERIENCE.

These two are not the same but not distinct either...different ends of the spectrum...more like different perspectives...one is unlimited...the other, limited but with the ability to strive for the unlimited perspective. We may never be able to bridge the chasm, but it's the striving that elevates us and expands our perspective.

I agree both beliefs are based on experience...and if you stripped away belief, you still have experience and knowing based on that experience...so yes, I use 'belief' loosely as well...

peace/blessings,

If you take a trip into mankind's uncovered history you will see that the myth of God in man's soul began with a coming of great technological civilizations from beyond the stars who were esteemed by ignorant humans to be Gods. But really they weren't, they were just advanced humans, humans that have had enough time to evolve to the point where they understand better the nature of self and how to effectively use their brains.

Look into the Sumerian Tablets, Greece's 'patheon' of the Gods, are really Gods - evolved humans, who visited earth from beyond. I know this is far out stuff but somehow it resonates deeply.

I have never heard of that before. I googled it up quickly and it seems like interesting material with a tinge of Paranoia. I will look more into it.

What is it about my post that made you think of the Brotherhood of the Serpent, (with the little I now know about the Brotherhood I still cant make the connection)?
