Words are a mask for what's behind them, and we can choose to give them power or not.

Yes, so true...the power of the word lies is in its intent. I choose to give all my words power...which means I have to always strive for integrity and awareness -- else I am just muddying my own waters, LOL...

I was thinking about 1) emotional honesty and 2) dealing with fears. Here, the power of words seems very important.
I began to realise that I needed to give a name to my feelings. And also to my fears. I realised that the real power of words lies mainly in their ability to bring our presence to a topic...when we name it with our full intent. And just as importantly, it gives a focus for listenting.
We speak, so that we can 1) be truthful...be honest, be who we really are...and 2) so that we can be honoured, heard, be recognised for who we really are. That is the power of speech on the interpersonal level...to focus intent, and to focus listening. Both have to do with bringing truth and presence to the moment.
I could say...I watered the plants for you while you were gone....[because I love you, with all my heart]. And if they are listening, then they say...thank you...[I understand, and I love you too, with all my heart]. And if we say and hear the intent beneath the words, then the true power of words was present in this moment.
I wonder how many times we have failed to notice the intent beneath the words? Because we weren't present in the moment. I'm sure I've been guilty a few times.
peace/blessings,

The only power in words is their ability to point. It's like sign posts. They have no power. The power is using them.
