Since dango is a Japanese food it looks like the Dango nose is named after that food. It's a bit mean and nasty slang.

Reminds me of Takoyaki. I used to love them so much I called them Takoyaki Bonbons.
It's a dumpling with a little bit of octopus inside.

Both are dango. One is savoury. The other is sweat.
I'm used to them savoury, not sweet.

As long as it's a dumpling made of rice flour rolled into a ball on a skewer (usually bamboo), it's a dango. What flavouring you add is up to you.

Most Japanese food is cute. You should see kids lunch boxes. They're like cartoon magazines.
There's a whole food degree on just how to pack them.
When I ate onigiri it was trangular, wrapped in nori with a filling like tuna or sushi.
