The Near and The Dear
What are labels but limits to us
Named or not life is continuous
Carved into us though they are
So far along we've grown with them
Planted deep within their walls
To keep who out do they keep us in
I suppose without a life
I would only live
And perhaps without a name
I would have to know your face
Interacting with you case by case
Nolonger are there generalisations
So when we speak with no past to speak of
Words of what would've or could've can't be
So we speak of what is, right now and right here
Without markers the path is much more clear
And without nearly as much time
You're left with the rest of your life
And no distance between you
And the near and the dear
(wrote this years ago for a prompt in a writers guild. its better than I remembered)
