I personally like what Jesus said, " I am in the Father and the Father is in me"... which is true regarding our DNA....

I wonder if the saying " like Father, like Son " has the same meaning as to what Jesus said

The Orthodox Church distinguishes between image and likeness. We can be the spitting image of our father but not at all be like him.

I assume that you understand likeness is limited to physical appearance…..? And for me likeness means acting like, thinking like etc. It is easy to differ when our understanding of the same words is different..

Sorry, if I missed it in another post somewhere.

From Robert Russell’s book “Getting Better Results From Spiritual Practice”

Though I think the God/ego reference may be from another book. I’ll get back to you on that.

Meister Eckhart .

In oneness the seer, the seeing, and the seen are the same.... Imo.

Continuing on with what Meister Eckhart has called the annihilation of self.

From Robert Russell’s “Getting Better Results From Spiritual Practice”

As long as the soul has not thrown off all her veils , however thin, she is unable to see God. Meister Eckhart

From the book “Meister Eckhart from Whom God Hid Nothing”

“one of the things beloved of God is riddance of self.”
Meister Eckhart

“There never was a struggle or a battle wich required greater valor than that in which a man forgets or denies himself.“
Meister Eckhart

Now unless we have had some degree of separation between ego and what you are beyond the human being then none of this will make any sense. Without experiencing God or The Divine there is no incentive to come after it and deny thyself in order to get closer to it. One of the ways to find God is we do what the Bible says and that is to seek God with all our heart and if we do so we will find God. IMO

I’m not familiar with this person, he was an evangelical preacher. It’s a good read on how individuality keeps us from God
https://utmost.org/individuality/

“Individuality counterfeits spirituality, just as lust counterfeits love. “

“We hinder our spiritual growth more than any other way by continually asserting our individuality.”

“The choice is either to say, “I will not surrender,” or to surrender, breaking the hard shell of individuality, which allows the spiritual life to emerge.”
