Which is fine but the simple fact is that we do not know.

Perhaps you can share with us what you do believe about reincarnation.

New-agers tell us that those who are born are blind because they wanted to experience blindness, those born without limbs wanted to experience life without limbs and those born with Down's syndrome wanted to live with Down's syndrome and so on. But they don't tell us how the person born with Down's syndrome was able to manipulate the process of conception such that the fetus that gave him birth would be formed missing a gene. If we are able to control our future births, we all should be born in perfect form.

When such silly notions are put forth, spirituality is seen as domain of the weirdos by reasonable people. Such notions of spirituality can never be reconciled with science.

First sentence above - I think the process of manipulating conception is beyond the person's pay grade.
Should? In your idea, sure. There are other things going on, tho, a Bigger Picture, I'd say.
I believe that one day some of these things will be reconciled, if not by science then perhaps with a personal experience of your own.

'Silly notions' is pretty insulting...many here could say some things about your notions.
I hope they don't, tho!

*Question: If you only follow what is scientific - what, pray tell, drew you to a spiritual forum?
I'm hoping it wasn't to mock our experiences or beliefs.
Thanks in advance for your ans.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

You may find it useful to read Robert Schwartz. If someone is born blind or with any other physical limitation then it may well be for karmic reasons, but it also provides lessons in living with limitations as well as providing learning opportunities for their immediate family.

And does the incarnating Soul actually manipulate the process of conception? Or is it that the type of body we are born into naturally suits our needs for any particular incarnation?

I question the assumption that if we are able to control our future births, we all should be born in perfect form. How do we define the perfect form? The personality may have an ideal of the perfect form, but maybe from a Soul perspective the perfect form is whatever suits their learning at any particular time.

Whatever type of human form we incarnate into, our life in that form is very brief. When the form has served its purpose it is discarded. It is only the temporary personality which attaches such importance to the physical form. By all accounts, the inhabiting Consciousness is more concerned with the inner lessons than the outer appearance.

Peace

Please be aware that we each have our own Thoughts and Beliefs.
There is no need for this tit for tat. because it differs from your own.
