Hi Sky123,
I have to say that Qigong itself is a general and broad concept, there are quite a lot of methods could be categorized into the Qigong concept, even some methods including body movements. So Tai Chi is also one method under the category of Qigong.

The effectiveness of Tai Chi is that it helps the Qi to move along the meridians by body movements as well as attention transfer from here to there under certain breathe rhythm. It helps penetrating the meridian blockages using your existing quantity of Qi. However, as far as the productivity of Qi is concened, Tai Chi helps also, but not much, that's why I said it is comparatively slow to have Tai Chi only to increase the total quantity of Qi.

You are right by saying that something should correspond with Tai Chi, to be more specific to answer your question, it shall be Taoism meditative techniques with not any body movements, cause Tai Chi is also derives from Taoism.

However, there is not only one Taoism meditative technique, there are many. For most of the persons that I met who practise Tai Chi, they didnt practise any meditative techniques.
Why is that?
Firstly, they have no guidance.
Secondly, they quit after a short period of days, cause the meditative techniques they practised takes longer time for them to feel any effects. I say Feel, it means feel by their bodies, warm, cold, numb, itch, etc. even pain. They didn't have these feelings in a short time, so they thought it is no use and quit. That is a shame.

I've been a teacher of a meditative technique for a few years. This meditative techinque derives from Taoism also and is the most efficient and effective one that I knew comparing with others. I have some students who practise Taichi everyday for years, but they can not feel the moving of Qi within their body, even one male aged 60 practised more than 8 years. Along practise this meditative techinque, he felt warm in his abdomen in the second day, and in the 6th day, his orbit body circulation of Qi was completed. After that, when he practise Tai Chi again, he was shocked by his body reaction and told me that he was not practising Taichi but doing normal body exercises for the past 8 years and his high blood pressure backs to normal from then on.

So if you are looking for some corresponding meditative techniques with Tai Chi, you could try the Taoism meditative techniques. If you want a much more efficient methods, you could come to me on fiverr, I have a trial gig for two days for people to Feel their Qi.
