If you give a cat a ball of string, chances are most likely, he/ she will unravel it!

I've just got an interesting fact I came across a while back.
DYK, "If an atom were magnified to the size of the solar system, a string would be the size of a tree".

Thanks for the info Wanderer :)
I'll go have a watch and get back to you soon as I have :) .. I've got to be honest it's something that's resonating but just can't get to grips with it yet :) ... another learning curve me thinks!

String Theory Is A Developing Idea
‘Classical physics defines that the universe is made of small particles (points) which are basically static and unchanging. String theory says that the particle is a string/line (not a particle/point) that forms these four different forces by vibrating in different ways.’
http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory
String theory is still using a rigid model for the particles in calling them strings. The Wiki article notes ‘There are many different versions of string theory, and none of them are fully accurate. Often, many of them use only good guesses.’ This is OK as part of scientific exploration is speculating. The best scientists understand that their knowledge is a dynamic & ever changing body of information, not getting too locked into whatever being absolute. Metaphysical & spiritual thought benefits from this flexible POV as well!
It is probably accurate that the Universe is made up of small particles that are dynamic in their own right. What is likely accurate is that these small bits are NOT fixed static & unchanging. The one constant in the Universe is change & this applies to EVERYTHING. A very interesting part of string theory is that they are beginning to discuss dimensional reality. Wiki- ‘Yet another problem is that it says our universe is made of at least 10 dimensions, while we only see four (width, height, depth, time). String theory proponents say some dimensions may not be visible to us, but others doubt there can be 6 or more hidden dimensions, or that we will never be able to access them even if they do exist.’ This is science moving very quickly towards what many are discussing as the merging of metaphysics & science, acnowledging that dimensional reality is a distinct possiblity. Duh!!!
Whether these are strings or other forms is anybody’s guess. The most important thing about string theory is to realize that, for instance, we once thought the smallest particle was a cell. Then we figured out that cells have many active parts. As we expand our scientific ability we find that the smallest identifiable parts of things have even smaller dynamic parts & so on.
Who knows where this will end up. We may find that our whole vast Universe is like one cell in another larger mega-Universal body w/ millions of companion Universes.
Begin w/ interesting basic geometric forms such as the mobius strips & torus, then combine them TOGETHER for some real fun. Like, the mobius strip continually turns like a torus. Things like that. Combined, merged geometrics. This is probably more how our dimensional Universe works. I think the more free thinking scientists are realizing that these forms can naturally combine w/ most interesting & innovative possibilities. They're doing great work in exploring these areas.
Mobuis strip, simple torus, more complex torus.
String theory model. These can progress to much more complex forms that keep extending out in the same manner that fractals can.

Hi Jules,
Another easy watching string theory documentary is one I've got called 'Elegant Universe' presented by Brian Greene. I think it's a 3 disk box set, ....that's nicely put together, enthusiastically well explained, and has some good visuals and a nice soundtrack including Pachabels Canon as the main theme.
Wot more could You ask, hehe, recommend for anyones Christmas list !!!
