Shiva protecting .......

I heard that Shiva protecting Siddhartha Gotama in reaching enlightenment. Is this true? Is there a history/story about this?
I'm just curious.

Namaste. I haven't heard of this, but as interested as I am in the Shiva/Buddhist connection, all I know about it is that Maha Kala is a similar and central figure to both religions, it implies the concept of celestial time.

I forget from who I heard about this. I can't find Shiva's story that has relation with Siddhartha Gotama.
Maybe that person who told me about this saw Little Buddha movie. I remember in that movie, a big cobra snake protecting Siddhartha Gotama from rain when he meditate.
Yes, there is Mahakala in Tibetan Buddhism and it is symbol of time.

I've never heard of it either, and I'm a Saivite. But that means nothing, since we have a vast array of stories connecting this, that and the next thing.

Namaste. I can sort of explain that one.

According to some schools of Hindu thought, Buddha is an avatar of Vishnu (I disagree with it personally, but that's me). Shiva isn't the only one who has snakes all around him. Vishnu does as well, and that cobra 'protecting' the Buddha could just be a symbolic reminder of Vishnu's snake...or something like that.
