The Raven and The Midnight... a Trilogy
The Raven and The Midnight
The raven diligently tended her nest
mystified by a smoky midnight,
always curious
but too afraid
to venture far inside.
So the two of them danced
under many moons
oblivious to how
their fates would collide,
denying the cosmic entanglement
keeping them intertwined.
Until one tragic night
when the earth did quake
and her faithful tree
fell away
and she was forced to take flight
upon the midnight
entrusting with him her fate.
It was to her surprise
she could glide
with such ease upon his breaths
and even more shocking
he too needed her
to help settle his own unrest.
So with synchronized steps
they marched in time,
to the rhythm of flames
freshly ignite
and their fires flickered
with a maddening delight
into an inferno
with astounding might
that could brighten even the darkest night
as it covertly raged
under growing tide
guiding their every stride
until they were living the story
they were destined to write
and upon her wings
his woes would find
their way into the light.

Have you, ever smiled at a raven as you passed by?
ever pondered if that raven ever cries?
Wondered if that raven felt as sad as you?
and if she did what might that raven do?
Does sadness hinder her ability to fly?
or inspire her to seek solace in the sky?
will her feathers show their wear and tear?
as she combs them through with tender loving care?
And as ravens have a keener sense of sight,
should she wander into darkness...
will she return to light?
the darkest of darkest ravens should she be,
the inner light will still show through to me.

Upon a smokey midnight
my heart once did fall
and so he saw me through
the hell that did enthrall
and as my nightmare did unfold
it fed upon my soul
devouring every weakened space
…
I was forsaken,
broken,
hollow.
So I implored on the midnight
to help me walk again
“Please hold me up until I stand
my dark unlikely friend”.
Shallow in his offerings
but voluminous with empathy
he held me up with warm embrace
and hobbled along beside me.
Though it wasn’t enough to make me whole
it helped me find my strength
and learn to rely on my own two legs
until the morning came.
Then like a mist the knight was gone
faded away with the nightingale’s song
Leaving in its wake a fondness
For which I’d eternally long.
