The only reason to get upset at someone talking abotu your religion is when its blatently disrespectful ( which the OP wasnt, its asking a valid question). I stand by what i say in my first post. Theres nothing wrong with tyring to find out truths, and inevitably that means finding disrepensies in things ( in this case, the bible).

Following somthing so blindly to the point where your ignorant to the truth is pointless, and gets you nowhere. Only by questioning things, and learning more and more, and letting people have the room to have their beliefs, are we to really make any progress personaly, and as a society. Playing follow the leader gets boring after a while, especialy when the person leading wont stop and share

Its in HOW they are pointed out. Look at the OP's initial post, it's chock full of language that isn't there to question. Even the topic title seems like it is designed to be mocking. If the discrepancies are phrased politely, questions asked with RESPECT to those that practice the religion in question, I have no problems with it. But I feel a lot of these posts are disingenuous with their intent. Whether you believe or no, like or dislike the religion in question it IS someone's religion and deserves to be handled with modicum of respect.

Wait what? This isn't being disrespectful?

We've set religion up as something into which humor cannot be interjected. I wasn't saying this to be disrespectful, but to point out a discrepancy with a little bit of sarcasm thrown in.

You are equating humor with disrespect, and that is just your interpretation.

Yes it is. But it's a very fine line. And sarcasm by it's very nature isn't respectful.

Again, your interpretation.

The context of my sarcasm was irony rather than sardonicism.

Take it for what its worth.

I can't argue what you say your intent was, it did seem less than respectful to me however.

I will certainly be less inclined to comment on posts like this in the future if you and others who wish to challenge ANY belief will consider how your choice of topic and statement can be interpreted by others. Maybe choosing less sarcasm and irony in the way you phrase such queries would keep everyone happier.

I think Christianity gets picked on because Christians (not all) are the ones who will tell others they're going to rot and burn in hell for eternity if those others don't follow Christ.

It's usually literal interpretations of the Bible that Christians use to tell others that. So Christians are setting themselves up to have their interpretations challenged.

This reminds me of a thought I used to have when I was around ten or so, and very Catholic: "I'm so glad I'm in the right religion!"

I would justify reading Harry Potter by telling myself that if I got a letter to Hogwarts, I would say, "No."

Fast forward ten years later and I am charging crystals in my back yard and saying the occasional mantra, go figure. I guess Harry Potter does turn people into Witches!
