Also think about this. Have you ever walked to a room or somewhere to do something you had in mind and when you get there, you're mind has totally forgotten what it was you came in there for?
I reckon, reaching the point you mentioned in your OP of bypassing all thoughts, would be much like a perpetual state of 'forgetting what you were about to do'.
Not my cup of tea! I'm here with the gift of identifying as a necessity to living.

I think I see what you are saying NS. The forementioned concepts aren't to do with the extermination of the subconcious. but rather the overhaul of it. Now I still don't think this is doable.
What I've found with meditation is that there it puts sme distance between you & thought by the very postulate of the practice therefore hopefully giving you greater freedom from reactive patterns.
Personally I strive to forget who I am & love those moments when the wheels fall off, but hey I'm strange that way. :)

mmm...i tend to agree with you nh. Like the drawer of socks, I think the subconscious would be needing a regular clean-out to rid yourself of those odd socks with no match. It would just keep building up with junk....that's my theory anyway
I love your analogy of 'when the wheels fall off' lol....its really a personal choice, isn't it? I'm pleased you feel quite comfortable with being that way.

Hi NS I wouldn't say I feel comfortable it's almost like a state of innocent wonder & then you catch the mind reaching to find a point of reference......but hey it's all good how else are we gonna spend our time? I think it was Aristotle who said "an unexamined life is not worth living" well 10 points for trying :)

Wise words nh. I dont feel the need to examine that any longer. I'd like that just to hang there, if you know what I mean.
