Fifteen to twenties minutes is long time for meditation, very few guys can stay focused in this time period. You are good in this technique.

It's just the length of the session, but the level of awareness still wavers, and sometimes it's just an hour of meandering mind, other times its much more concentrated and silent. That doesn't really matter much though, because the meditation itself is more to with 'what is' so if it's shallow then it's shallow and if it's deep then it's deep.

I'm female and meditate for half an hour, twice a day, although it's not always easy. I used to meditate for 15-20 minutes but I've found it helpful to continue as my thoughts settle down after that length of time. I still have thoughts come up but I keep bringing my attention back the the mantra or my breath, whichever the object of focus. I used to find meditation very hard but it just takes practice and willingness to let go of desired outcome. If you fight to let go of thoughts it just won't work. The key is to relax and be with what happens.

Hi Starbuck,
I sometimes get into a deeper phase of meditation, though I do not know how to get into this phase; It just happens spontaneously.
But perhaps you can explain more about what you mean by "deeper meditation phase". What do you feel when you are in this state? Do you feel expanded?

Hi Spiritual Seeker
It's hard to put into words but there's a sort of shift where I feel greater stillness and my thoughts are much less. I feel much less distracted and at one with everything. I suppose there is a sort of expansion as well but it's hard to put across. As you say it just happens spontaneously, without effort.
