Ringing in ears
I don't know if this is the proper place to ask this, but, I have had a ringing in my ears for about 4 or 5 years. It's constant in my left ear, sometimes audible but not as loud in my right, sometimes and less often in both. Occasionally very loud.
What, if anything, could this mean?

Ironically at a local meeting of spiritual seekers, this topic came up. Some of us experience this as well. Ringing or high-pitched sound. Some see it as a download of information or a shift in spiritual frequency, maybe alerting you of a spiritual presence (possibly spirit guide). I've received it at times I felt I needed to take note of the moment or information, or even as validation once to a question I asked and felt a resonating answer. I'm not sure really. Maybe all of the above and a few options I haven't heard of yet. :)

Thanks for the heads up, Grace222. I read the same thing about the downloading on a conspiracy theory site, but there's so much off the wall stuff on it I wasn't sure if the information was reliable.
I can't imagine what's possibly being downloaded to me, if that indeed is the case. I'm really not into meditating, but I do have moments where I almost instantly go into a very spiritual sensation...I feel it go up my spine. A couple times it felt like I might be able to leave my body. I don't know what to do with that, or even if I should try to have an OBE. Yet I sensed that's as far as it's gonna go.

Have had it checked out, as many others with the same issue have. I'm pretty healthy, nothing wrong.

Ringing in your ears often indicates a spiritual entity such as an angel trying to contact you. I experience this quite often (think once or twice a week) myself. Myself and my partner have been house-hunting without much luck for a while and when I was looking online the other day my ears started ringing when I came across a property which subsequently turned out to be perfect for us and it now looks like we'll get.
However I would be concerned that the ringing is constantfor you. Surely that's rather maddening! Maybe see an ent specialist if you've not done so already. Or maybe a good medium!

Yes, this has come up on this forum many times.
Better than the search function here on SF itself, is to put the following into a search engine such as Google: site:www.spiritualforums.com ringing ears
You'll probably get quite a few hits for threads.
A member named Running recently started a thread.
You mention "It's constant in my left ear, sometimes audible but not as loud in my right, sometimes and less often in both. Occasionally very loud." Yes, this seems to be how it is in the majority of people who've brought the topic up or recounted their experience.
For me, over about the last 10 years, the sound(s) have been there - often more so in the left ear. I'm convinced of the sound(s) being related to the physiological dimension of spiritual development. The term in East-Indian yoga is nad or nadi. I don't say it is bad that people hear the sounds, but I fully realize the it can be distracting or irritating sometimes.
I think about five years back, it sometimes got to be a howl in my left ear - it impaired my outward hearing, too. This was at times, but it wasn't constant by any means. But because I had responsibilities and work, when it was loud like that it was a real problem. For those cases I eventually resorted to an OTC codeine-containing tablet. That would calm the volume down. (It's not that I'm recommending this remedy, because codeine is considered potentially habit-forming.)
I've heard a high-pitched sound mostly. Various other tones occasionally show up. For a while, a sort gourd-rattle sound would sometimes join the high-pitched tone, in my left ear.
It just so happened that something over two years ago, I went to spend a few hours (along with a group of people) with a renowned spiritual/energetic teacher. Though the inner sound was not why I went, I discovered afterward that having been given an individual blessing by this healer tamed the sound. I think it only became objectionably loud one more time after that session.

The ringing is not annoying in that it is not so loud that it affects me. Mostly I really only sense it when I'm reminded of it or if it's very quiet. I first read about others ringing ear experience in another forum, and thought to myself...hey, I'm experiencing that same thing.
I don't have any real serious concern about what it means...if anything. The idea that so many have expressed having the experience is interesting, though, so by further sharing our experiences and thoughts might lead to some understanding of what it may mean.
Your experience with the healer is interesting. Before reading that it seemed most of what I read concerning ringing in the ears was a good thing. Well...who really knows at this point...? Might be that it's nothing, or something simple.
My partner has tinnitus, but he describes it as more of the sound of electronic static. Doctor said it was due to loosing flexibility in the tiny sensory hairs.

I've had a sound in my head all my life, and I don't notice it unless I pay attention to it. It doesn't 'mean anything'. Almost everyone (if not everyone) can still hear something when it is perfectly quiet, as though the hearing mechanisms themselves still make a slight sound by their very functioning. It can be used as the object of focus in meditation, and that's how I contextualise it with spirituality.
